I recently upgraded to 64-bit OS(Windows 7) from my old 32-bit version. I noticed that while several applications are available in 64-bit, many are still 32-bit applications. should I always download and install 64bit software when possible or 32bit version of the same software is fine as it's compatible?

Solution
64 bit versions of Windows have no problems with 32 bit software. It will run as good on a 64-bit system.

64 bit software can be faster when optimized and have access to more memory when needed(and the OS allows more memory as well). The ability to access more memory is useful in games and other memory intense programs.

64 bit versions of Windows will NOT run 16 bit programs.
