I've been having issues with my audio quality in all the videos I record, I'm not sure when this started, but it wasn't recent, I just couldn't fix it and gave up, now I've returned to the problem.
EDIT: [strike]Here's how it sounds. YoutubeURL[/strike]

Everything sounds like its behind glass or just feels distant or played via an old radio, The Wind the ambient noises especially the gun shots all sound crap.

In my headphones It all feels "Alive", Close and Crisp! Just as it should be, but in these recordings its complete crap.

I've tried fiddling around in my Sound options with no luck, and I even uninstalled and download new Realtek HD audio drives which didn't work also.

I'm really struggling with this, would love to find a fix for it! Also its not just ShadowPlay or "Share" I did a quick test with OBS and MSI Afterburner... All had the same audio problem.

Please help me out! Thanks.

if you're on W10, this video will likely solve your problem. Especially the part where it shows you how to disable all audio enhancements.

The worst part of your video OP, is it sounds like there's some enhancement enabled that makes the gun shots echo too much.

I really doubt this is ShadowPlay's fault.

Oh ok, how about other Software like MSI Afterburner or fraps? I'm having the problem no matter what I use to record

And mine was fine months ago as well.

I'm not using any sound effects, Apart from using equalized settings in Realtek and if I disable all audio enhancments then I'll lose my EQ and it will just sound too flat for me :/

I've just tried it, and yes it finally fixed it! Even tho I didn't use any Echo sound enhancements or anything apart from the EQ, that check box still helped!

I'm not sure what to do now, I have 60 ohm headphones and even on 100% volume some music sounds too quiet, but I guess I'll need to start looking in to an AMP/DAC Combo... since I usually used the Software EQ to make everything louder and also to bring out the vocals out more etc...

EDIT: Alright I've picked the best answer even tho I'm not 100% Satisfied with the results. :p

Yeah I was going to say, I don't know why you thought you had to have enhancements enabled just to use EQ. Nobody I know of makes their audio panel that way.

Anyways, sounds like you guys got it sorted. I don't know if it was an oversight, or MS planned to have enhancements enabled by default, but it seems pretty silly to me, since it's never been done that way before.

No problem!

Yeah I was going to say, I don't know why you thought you had to have enhancements enabled just to use EQ. Nobody I know of makes their audio panel that way.

But it DOES disable the Equalizer settings which makes my headphones sound completely bad, I can't use the EQ independently from other sound effects.
so I'm still struggling to figure out a different way to keep my EQ but have my recordings sound EXACTLY like they sound to me...
And its frustrating that I can't find anything online on how to record the exact sound that my headphones are outputting. I'm still trying to fix the issue, if anyone can lighten the situation or explain the obvious to me, it would make my day. (Actually multiple days now...)

Update:
This issue is giving me headaches. I think I'm coming to a conclusion is that it was just my EQ settings, which I have no clue how it works anymore...
To simply put, here is how it went:
I listen to music and equalize at the same time to find the perfect settings, k good I've done it.
Balance it so my Games also sound decent so I turn down the highs a bit etc. so I don't get a washed out sound.
There! I'm satisfied I listen to other youtube gameplay videos and it sounds great everything sounds great Music, Videos, Games, and other people's games.
Then I start recording my own gameplay and listening it back it yields muffled and distorted as well as horrible gameplay sound.

I'm having a hard time understanding how the Software EQ works... Feels like it doubles the EQ and spazzes it out in my own recordings... Because when I listen to other peoples Games WITH the SAME equalizer it sounds fantastic.

So that Video I uploaded in OP probably sounded normal to you. I'm just dumb this was pretty obvious, I just couldn't wrap my head around it :p

Yeah, I was gonna reply that I couldn't notice anything especially wrong with the audio of the video you uploaded, but I didn't think that would help so I decided against it. Ask your other friends if it sounds alright to them, and maybe it is only a problem when you listen to it.

Yeah its because of my Realtek Equalizer. I guess it stacks my EQ on top of each other when listening to my own recorded footage and ends up [strike]pooping on itself[/strike] and being muffled, I do wonder, out of curiosity, did you do any EQ'ing? And can test it out? I'd like to know if is it because of my drivers being bad or because no one else uses the Software Equalizer like Realtek's :p

Thanks anyway!

My Realtek HD Audio sound panel for my ASUS MB has EQ and Enhancements, and disabling one does not disable the other. You sure you're using it right?

Note Environment (enhancements) says "None", while retaining EQ settings

I thought it sounded very bad regarding gunshots. Too much echo.

Not sure what you mean but I'm using a Gigabyte MB so I'm not sure if I even have one.

For me they are tied to each other:

And the Realtek HD Audio Manager Just saves the EQ sliders position when I check "Disable All Sound Effects" but it ignores my EQ and once I start sliding them again my "Disable All Sound Effects" check box automatically clears.

You should only adjust it in the Realtek HD Audio Manager. It clearly shows as mine does that it can be set to no effects while retaining EQ settings.

As long as you don't have Environment checked in the Windows one, Windows shouldn't be adding any sound effects.

I'm not talking about any other Effects The EQ IS the effect which is causing me sound issues during my own recordings.

If I set my EQ to default, my recordings will sound the exact same as they did for me... But if I change the EQ it will like stack on each other and ruin the sound depending on how much I EQ'd...

I've tested this and recorded a video WITH my EQ and then I turned off my EQ to watch my recorded video, and it sounded like I had the EQ I was just using and was ok.

But if I Record WITH my EQ and Watch it WITH my EQ, then the video doesn't sound anything like it sounded to me, Its too loud and muffled not crisp... it like stacked my recorded EQ with my current used EQ... Thats my problem.

Hopefully it makes sense with my bad explanation.

The fix I'm looking for is how to make my recording software bypass my personal EQ settings?

Doing the steps shown in that video COMPLETELY RUINED Shadowplay recordings for me. Now there is a very deep hollow sound in the audio in the clips I've recorded AFTER following trying to fix my audio with that video.

Also, I can't enable EQ anymore. It shows enabled but doesn't work. Also, if I have EQ on I have the same as Tail. You can't disable sound enhancements without having your sound equalisation completely disabled too.

This is way more hassle than thought before.

RCFProd, Yeah this is very frustrating!
At the moment I'm using a very slight adjustment in my EQ which actually (For me) helps with the sound and makes it decent while at the same time not completely crap-ing on my Recorded video sounds. But its still noticeable worse in my recordings and not as good as I want them to sound... But atleast its not AS bad as before haha...

Try plugging out your headphones and then back in... Usually fixes this problem for me.

Oh yeah that worked actually, thanks.

However something strange AF. I completely reinstalled every audio driver, and what suprised me is that there was no background noise or static noise of any sort, and this was an issue of my motherboard. For the first time, completely no static noises in the background at all. It was beautiful, but as you said my equalizer didn't work so I tried out what you said. Equalizer working again, but the little static noises in the background are back lol..
