Hi, I purchased WD 6TB Black HDD(WD6001FZWX), I am using this on my laptop(Win7, 64Bit). I am using "Quantom Zero USB3.0 to SATA III docing station" to connect the HDD.

I've tried almost everything to get this working, but every time I get the error while formatting the disk. When I go to `Disk Management`the dialogue pops up and ask if I want to use MBR or GPT partition style. I tried to select both at different times, but I get an error pop by saying "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.” and “Incorrect function." I also tried to diagnose my HDD with WD diagnosis tool, it passes the quick test. But when I try to `write zeros` option, the operation gets failed with some error message.

I tried to connect another 2TB Seagate HDD on the same doc, that works fine and I am able to access the data. So I don't thing there is anything wrong with Docing station.

Please let me know what I am doing wrong.

Hey there again, bharat_7!

Well, my other guess is that the issue is coming from the docking station itself. I'd recommend you check the specifications of the product and make sure that it supports 6 TB HDD capacities. If you have the means, you should also try connecting the drive using a different external source (enclosure/SATA-to-USB cable + adapter). It's most probably some sort of limitation in the support HDD size of the docking station. What was the HDD capacity of the other drive, which you tested on the external dock?
If this is the source of the problem, then you should consider replacing the docking station with one that is compatible with 6 TB HDDs.

Keep me posted.

Welcome to the TH community, bharat_7!

I'm sorry to hear about your formatting issues with the WD Black! :( I'd suggest you try to initialize it while plugged to a PC (if you have access to one). You should also try running the EXTENDED test from the WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics tool and see if it passes that test. If the I/O device error persists, I'd strongly recommend you to get in touch with our Customer support. Since the WD Black is brand new, then it should still be covered by the warranty. You're most likely still able to send your RMA request and get a replacement from our WD support.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted if you have more questions & concerns about your WD Black.

Hey!

I've already got it replaced once, but I am still getting the same error. I don't have access to any PC. As I am getting the same error, I am not sure if that is product fault. Let me know if that is likely that I could get faulty product second time too.
