New rig turns itself off after a few seconds during breadboarding

I'm having some trouble with a new build that I'm breadboarding. [Config at the bottom.]

Starting with PSU and CPU+HSF gives the characteristic three long beeps. I insert a stick of RAM, and get the five short beeps. I insert the graphics card and connect the monitor, and it appears to work fine -- however, after about five to fifteen seconds, the whole thing just turns off.

So I'm wondering what on earth can be wrong here, and how should I proceed to find out?

I tried the PSU with another (older) computer, and it seemed to work well, booted into windows and stayed on for an extended period of time. So the PSU seems OK, right?

The stick of RAM worked perfectly in another computer, so that should be fine, right?

If the CPU was defect, I suspect it wouldn't even turn on in the first place, right?

So I suspect it's either:
(1) a defect motherboard;
(2) perhaps some malfunction in the cooler that might be causing it to overheat.

Does anybody recognise this problem, or have any suggestions on how to solve it?

Configuration:
PSU: Seasonic M12-II Bronze Evo-edition 750W
MB: ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer
CPU: AMD FX8350
HSF: Corsair H100i GTX
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX960
RAM: Some generic 4GB DDR3 stick which is known to work

Solution
Solved it!

The problem was with the mounting of the cooler on the CPU. On the MB there were some plastic brackets around the CPU socket -- instead of taking them off, I left them on, which means that the head of the water-cooler was a few millimetres removed from the CPU. When I turned it on, it would take a few seconds before overheating and then shutting down.

A little embarrassing to be such a dumbass, but there you go!
