What is the stock voltage for a I7-6700k CPU?

I have recently bought a new Asus z170-AR motherboard as well as a new intel i7-6700k processor along with some 16gb (2x8gb) kingston hyperX Fury memory sticks.

I had some extreme temperature issues with my cpu so i checked the bios and it said the vcore was set to auto at 1.396v. So i set it to manual and put it at 1.20v.

I installed GTA V and after about 40 mins into online i got a BSOD error, the first time it said clock_watchdog_timeout then the next time it said whea_uncorrectable_error.

I don't get these issues when playing rainbow six siege or battlefield 4

I heard that GTA V doesn't work well with under or overclocked cpu's so i was wondering if my voltage is set too low.

My max temp when playing games is 60 degrees Celsius and idle is 30 degrees.

My cpu is not overclocked

What should my voltages be set to?

its not falty chip or mb.

intel dont set a default vcore for this new family and MB manufactures are "overvolting" all processor to make sure they can run without problem.

(asked asus support and they replyed me this)

i have the same processor and the same mb you have, and i already set vcore to 1.2 at bios.

i can run everything without any problem, GTA5, the Division, The Witcher, all games and Stress Tests without BSOD.

chips may differ, set your vcore to 1.25 or reinstall your drivers.

also, make sure your MB has the lasted BIOS installed

Hi, i meant to say 1.3v not 2.3.

I'm using a cooler master seidon 120v liquid cooler.

The thing is if i set my bios to default my cpu voltage will go to 1.3v not 1.2v and my cpu temps go up like 9 degrees celsius.

Yeah, the chip must be faulty if its drawing that voltage in stock clocks, should try to get it replaced. Near and past the 1.4v mark reduces the chip life. People who OC the 6700k can get 4.6Ghz at 1.3v which is reasonable.

Not even on heavy load with turbo boost it should be using 1.376v if you aren't overclocking, I've read about similar cases and they had to RMA the chip. You could check if the Vcore is the same as displayed in BIOS using HWMonitor or CPU-Z

Same processor but with Asus Z170-A here and I am at 1.2 base voltage with the adaptive setting up to 1.30 and pushing a mild 4.4 OC. Idle temps around 25 C with 58 - 60 C during heavy load. The stock setting was over 1.35 for the board and just way off. Temps were off the charts as it would push over 1.45 V during heavy load. Lower the settings and you will be fine.

Hi Fabiodrm, thank you for your answer I'm glad I don't have to go to the effort to get this replaced. Just one quick question.

what is MB?

And what drivers should I reinstall?
Eg.. Graphics drivers

Ive seen this so much over the net and had the same problem myself with this Asus line of mother boards. when you enable a different xmp for ram speed it switches the cores setting to auto sync, so basicly your cpu it running at 4.2 across all cores. not just "turbo coring" at 4.2. Go in your bios and switch it back to AUTO. it will run at 1.2xx. 4.0 across all cores. And keep your cpu from pulling so much power and heat.

get the latest bios and use 1.200 volt adaptive voltage load line calibration lvl 5. just try it you had load line calibration on auto and when you set 1.200 the last time you got 1.130 on full load caus load line calibration does that. set it to lvl 5 use 1.200v and try. i did this with latest bios pls be carefull when updating bios.

I have same cpu and an asus z170pro gaming mb and mine sits at 1.325-1.475 at idle will try dropping voltage again later today, tried last night but it just kept giving the 1.325-1.475 even when I had voltage set to 1.200. Also have latest bios update, never updated chipset drivers though, I will give it a go and see if it helps lower voltage. Cpu is at 4ghz and memory is oc`d 2400 to 3000. Stress test was getting 81c.

check load line calibration and set it to lvl 5 it will nod vdrop under 1.200 when on full load that way. in prime 95 auto load line calibration it tends to drop to 1.130 and thats bad caus it might be to low voltage. also chek synchronise all cores. this is how i use it now. also managed an overclock at 1.290 volt load line calibration lvl 6 for 4600 mhz in full load it will not go over 1.335 volt in prime 95 26.6 example. and prime 95 28.10 will go to 1.365 but don't use that version of prime95. happy it worked.

Weird. I just checked HWinfo and it tells me my voltage is up to 1.39 at it's highest. This is at stock and idling with the highest temp spike being 30 C briefly (though I've been advised that this CPU will spike while idling more than the spike range under load, it's usually under 25 C)
Under load the most heat I've had playing anything is 65 C (that's with a GTX 1070 and the 6700k under a H100i)
I'm not going to pretend that I know how to do all this stuff posted above (this is my first build) but I'll be ok right?
I was hoping to do an OC at some point but again, I have no idea... putting this thing together was easier than software/BIOS stuff (I have a condition that affects my cognitive ability, making fiddly numbers and processes difficult btw)

I'm a tad late to this thread, but if anyone runs across it in the future that ASUS-170AR motherboard has a jumper to regulate core voltage right next to where you plug in the 8 pin CPU power wires. 1-2 is default, 2-3 is Over Voltage for overclocking. ITs all done dynamically anyway but with OV set the base is higher.
