I have a Dell 660s the original motherboard has died, can I can replace it with any after market motherboard or OEM Dell motherboard ? Please advise

Solution
Don't get an aftermarket board for an OEM system, that is a bad idea. OEMs have so many customization that are designed to work with the system they intended it for.

If you buy a refurb board, it should give you the option to enter it as soon as you turn it on the first time. If it doesn't, you should be able to use the Dell Asset utility to change it.
Hi

looking at Dell user manual
http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_inspiron_desktop/inspiron-660s_owner's%20manual_en-us.pdf

page 15

This motherboard looks a fairly standard socket 1155 type

If you dismantle the system you can measure the motherboards dimensions to confirm if it is a standard size, with standard spacing for mounting pillars.

You need to check the case to see if the back plate is removable and standard size

(back plate has holes for VGA, USB, audio, network, PS/2 ports)

It is a small case which may be tricky to work with but Dell produce good manuals for their PC's & laptops unlike many other manufacturers

Go with the original board designed for that machine, it will make everything much easier. The only thing you have to do is change the service tag, and that's it.

Is there any reason why you want to sway from the board designed for the 660s?

The original motherboard died on me 2 weeks ago, I had it only 2 years for kids. I was thinking to replace it with a aftermarket board.

PS How do you change the service tag ?
