What new architecture? As far as CPUs go? There's AMD Zen but whether or not that's a viable alternative to Intel remains to be seen. There's also Broadwell-E but in Europe that's a lot more expensive than it will be here in the states. Graphics? You're going to be waiting for Polaris (AMD) and Pascal (NVIDIA). If you're going to buy now, buy now. If you're going to wait, wait. If you buy with the intention of upgrading you will never be satisfied with anything you have.

From what I've heard, 27" at 1080p works great for gaming. And it makes the icons bigger in windows and easier to see. Pros sometime...

Crossfire works but it doesn have glitches. Some games will have tearing and whatnot. Many people avoid crossfire and SLI. I see it as a way of upgrading an older system and getting extra life out of aging cards.

You would be better off with a 390x or 980. Even better a Fury or 980Ti. 1440P is a lot to process, 4 times the pixels of 1080p. You're better off using a 144Hz Sync 1080P monitor rather than a 60Hz 1440P monitor. It's just so much easier to push.

Pros sometime complain about pixelation at that size, but people in the forums deny this. 1440p is nice for extra real estate in games, but damn it takes so much horsepower to run it. I don't think the technology is there yet unless you have serious cash for 980Ti's.

Frig cable TV is still only 720 and 1080p. The odd 4k on netflix is about it. Try rendering that in real time with games...it's crazy. I'd rather go 144Hz GSync 1080p 24 or 27". Wait for pascal and future AMD stuff to release, prices to stabililze, and in a year or so 1440p will be more worth it. 1440p monitors are also crazy expensive with the 144Hz and GSync. You can buy a 50" 4k TV for your living room cheaper. It's nuts. If you have the cash by all means go for it.

Seriously? You can get pretty decent frame rates on 1440P with a 960 or R9-380X. You might be getting things confused with 4K which does take a lot more horsepower to run.

No way, those monitors cost around $1K here in the states. I shudder to think what they're going for in Europe.

OP - what country are you from? Knowing that will help to suggest a system.

1440p is very doable with a 970 or 380x. But you won't be pulling 144Hz on ultra settings consistently.

The new architecture coming out is Nvidia Pascal. It's based on 16nm process. The current video cards are 28nm I believe. That allows way more horsepower and more efficiency. Pascal is going to be good....real good. AMD has a few tricks up their sleeve as well. Zen and their future video cards are also going to be real good. Until AMD stuff is released, Nvidia and Intel will keep their prices inflated which is good for their bottom end, but bad for us.

I don't expect AMD stuff till late 2016 and into early 2017. NVidia stuff is read for launch in May with higher end models to follow. Intel Skylake is here now.

As far as monitors go at Newegg in the US the GSync monitors are in the $500-700 category with the odd deal under $500. The 1440p ones are about $100 more than the 1080p ones. Looking at bestbuy an LG 50" 4k TV is $600. Cheaper ones can be had for $400. My point was getting a 1440p monitor is quite expensive considering you can get a 50" 4k TV for cheaper, and a 24" 1080p monitor can be bought for $99. You want gaming class, it's going to cost you.

Adaptive Sync is expensive which is why AMD is starting to give the technology for free to monitor manufacturers in hopes that more people will buy AMD video cards seeing as how AMD compatible monitors should be much cheaper than the equivalent NVidia.

Not always, where you're paying money for "gaming class" equipment is if you go with the name recognition. If you look on Newegg an Asus ROG monitor goes for at least $200, maybe $300 over what a non branded monitor with nearly identical specs goes for.

Yeah I'm really interested to see what AMD does with 14nm for Zen and Polaris. Things should get very interesting in that regard. But I don't know about Intel inflating prices. Yes they are more expensive than AMD, but the reason AMD is so inexpensive right now is because the FX platform (AM3+) is nearly five years old. I'm sure that when Zen is released it will be priced to compete with the higher end i5s and i7s.
