I connected my computer to an old 32inch (lcd tv) via a VGA cable. it only supports 1024x768 while in the settings there is a max upto 2560x1440, when i choose it reverts back to 1024x768 and says "not support" so my tv does not support high resolutions? or my computer isnt capable? (i get 1920x1080 in my main 21.5 inch monitor)

Solution
Even if you could get 1920x1080P the quality of video with VGA output is really terrible when compared to DVI and HDMI.
The graphic card should be able to handle high resolution according to the display input
For VGA it should be 2048*1536
DVI should be 2560*1600
HDMI 1920*1080
If the TV can only output 1024*768 then perhaps it is the TV limitation and not your graphics card.
Can you let me know the TV name and model number?
