Hey there again, Mark!

You should contact the HDD manufacturer's customer support and let them know about your issues with the drive. I'd still suggest you connect it to a different computer and track its behavior there.

Welcome to the community, Mark!

I'd advise you to try connecting your external HDD to another computer/laptop and see how it will impact the other system. You should also try using a different USB cable and a different port on your PC. If the issue persists after changing the cable, you should use the hard drive manufacturer's brand-specific diagnostic tool to check up on the health and SMART status. You should be able to find the utility on their official website.

I'd also recommend you check the USB hub controller drivers for your computer and manually update them from the manufacturer's website as well. Once you select your model and OS version, there should be a list will the latest available drivers & utilities.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted.

I cannot seem to find the software, or I would have tried this, it is not listed under Seagate, or anything, when it said "installing software" I assume it referred to drivers. There is nothing in programs, a search using Seagate as the search term, yields nothing. I am using safemode with networking currently. I cannot run a system restore either.

Keep us posted & good luck! :)
