I'm looking to upgrade my rig and am in search of a new gpu. I will be buying 2nd hand as I am a student and cannot afford to go brand new. my budget is £200. I can pick up a GTX 770 2GB for around £110. I also know someone selling a 8GB Powercolor R9 390 for £195. It is almost new whereas the GTX 770 will most likely be a lot more used. As both are in my budget, what would you guys recommend? Is the R9 390 worth the extra money at this stage or am I better of saving some money and going with the 2GB version GTX 770 and using some of the money left over to replace my i5 3470 with an i5 4690k. I want to game at ultra settings at 1080p on games such as GTA V, Black Ops III, Fifa, The Crew, Project cars, etc. I do not have a fancy monitor or anything, I actually use my 48" Full HD Smart Samsung TV which must be a burden on graphics cards.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Fun how students can afford £200 for gpus. Anyways you cant really get a new motherboard and i5-4690k for £90 unless you steal it, not to mention your CPU is completely capable right now. The R9 390 is definitely the better choice, however can your PSU handle it?

The PSU I have is a Corsair TX750 V2 (Its the seasonic made one, not the low quality or worse quality CIT one). Do you think this will be enough? And thank you for your reply. Also the £200 isn't from my student loan or anything lol, it is my savings on the side and as I do not have a job, I very highly doubt those savings will be increasing any time soon. Also in order to afford the 4690k I would have been selling my motherboard and my 3470 which would have probably made it close to viable but if you say the 3470 is okay then you're in a better position than me, I don't have much idea. Thank you very much for your help, do you think my PSU will be enough for the radeon card?

Thanks ever so much for suggesting the 3570k, I don't know why I didn't think of that lol. Do you think the 390 and the 3470 paired together would be able to run the games I mentioned at ultra settings with no issues on a 48" TV? Thanks again

You don't need a CPU upgrade at all, and between the two GPUs, the R9 390 is definitely the better performer if you can live with the heat and fan noise. This is coming from someone who owns a GTX 770 4GB.

The size of the display doesn't matter if the resolution remains the same.

Can you wait until the end of the year and save your money for Polaris and Pascal? If you can, you should.

It should be pretty OK with your CPU and a 390. I have an i5 3570K at stock clocks (for now) and a GTX 980, and I get 60FPS, ultra detail, on a 1920X1200 monitor, so if your TV is just 1080P it should be fine. That said I wouldn't want to play on a TV due to the hideous amounts of input lag.
