06G-P4-5998-KR - 6GB EVGA GTX 980 Ti K|NGP|N ACX 2.0+ (Pre-binned 72%+ ASIC), PCIe 3.0, 7096MHz GDDR5, 1203MHz, Boost 1304MHz, Cores 2816

this card costs 750 pounds as its pre binned. can anyone explain what pre binned means? thanks

When they make the chips, they are not all equally good. There's some random variations in how well they overclock, and even whether they have defective areas. They test all the chips, and sort them based on these characteristics. That's called binning.

A pre-binned graphics card just comes with a chip that's guaranteed to be on the better end of that scale.

The only advantage binning on a gpu has is that at the factory the gpu tested better for voltage vs leakage. It does not indicate the card will overclock any better than another, just that it has better electrical qualities than other gpu's on the same wafer.

Long explanation.
Silicone wafers start out as a large "sausage".
It is then cut into wafers and polished.
The center of the wafer is of better quality than the edges.
As an example the Titan. 980ti,980 are all made from the same mask and silicone wafer.
The dies with minor defects become 980TIs. the ones with more defects become 980s and the almost perfect ones become Titans.
From there they go through another binning process.
The ones that will run the fastest at lower voltage become the premium card chips.
The ones that run faster at slightly higher voltages become overclocked cards chips.
The ones that do not overclock much without higher voltage become Regular or stock card chips.
So the chips that overclock the best at lower voltages are used in the K1NGP1N cards.
