Hi guys

This is my friend system :

MB: Asus P5KPL/1600
CPU: Celeron 430 @ 1.8 GHz
RAM: 1GB DDR2
VGA: nVIDIA 8400GS

This mainboard have 4 slots for RAM, I install windows 10 on this system but it is slow a lot
I think this for memory and no for CPU and VGA (windows animations work prefect)

my friend work with this system for routing (see video, brows on web, MS Office.....)

now my question...
I want buy RAM for this syetem (and dont remove 1GB RAM that installed)
this motherboard support 4GB RAM for maximum
If i buy "one slot RAM 2GB" , can i use it on this MB? and can work this RAM with old ram that installed on system?

Just get a 2*1GB kit and install it on the yellow slot for dual channel.
If you want to make it 3GB install the previous RAM on the slot 3 (Black slot)
Get the same brand same speed.
It should work.

According to ASUS website, your motherboard supports 4GB of DDR2 800MHz RAM.

From my understanding, if you want to put 4GB of RAM into your machine you will need 4 x 1GB modules. I don't think you can use 2GB modules as each slot only takes maximum of 1GB. You may want to double check though.

*When installing total memory of 4GB capacity or more, WindowsR 32-bit operation system may only recognize less than 3GB. Hence, a total installed memory of less than 3GB is recommended.

You can install 1GB stick of RAM for each slot that makes it total of 4.
The celeron 430 is a single core CPU thats the reason why the computer is slow.
You need a dual core CPU to stream videos properly these days or else it will stutter during playback.
Get a core 2 duo off ebay or other used PC parts store or website.
Just get another 1GB DDR2 stick same frequency and upgrade the CPU if you plan to run windows 10 on it.
I might suggest going back to XP if he doesn't want to upgrade as XP is very easy and lightweight on resources for single core CPU.

RAM: 2x1GB DDR1
VGA: on Board

i run Win7 :D, no problem... in my username you see 478, it refer to my socket MB :D

for my friend, I understand each slot support 1GB for MAX
Now if i buy 2 slot RAM (each of them 1 GB), but different, not in a pack or not dual channel (for example one of them 1GB Kingston and another is 1GB corsair) can they work? and can they work with old ram that previously installed? means totally 3 GB...

They may work together but there is no guarantee, it really is a bit of a lottery when matching RAM. If you can get them cheap and are prepared to take the hit if they don't work then it is worth a try. TO improve your chances of success just make sure the speed and timings are the same.

However, the only guarantee that RAM will work together is if you buy a set.

The color of slots:

Slot1: Yellow (now Installed memory)
Slot2: Black (Now empty)

Slot3: Yellow (Now empty)
Slot4: Black (Now empty)



I have three plan:

A) I buy a one slot 1GB and save previously 1GB RAM, but i must install new RAM on what slot?

B) I buy a new Dual Channel Ram and REMOVE previously RAM, but i must install them on yellows or blacks slot? (or must install slot 1 and 2 or slot 3 and 4 )

C) I buy a new Dual Channel Ram and SAVE previously RAM, please say me how install it side of previously RAM (we thinks work each 3 RAM with them)
