audio driver error, cannot fix it

Whenever I start my PC, I get the following error message:
Sonic Suite 2Error on Audio Driver Check, please verify version of Audio Driver
I do not have a sound card, I'm just using my motherboard: ASUS Z170 pro gaming.

I have deinstalled all older audio drivers from previous motherboards, and reinstalled the current driver. I have always gotten this message whenever I started my PC ever since I installed the new motherboard. I used to get a pop-up from the audio driver whenever I connected a headphone or microphone jack, allowing me to edit the settings, but even this is now gone after reinstalling the drivers. I don't understand what causes this, and I cannot find any information about it online either.

As always, thanks for the help.

Solution
I usually only get drivers from the source, so in your case from the motherboard maker. I don't like Windows Update to provide drivers, and I certainly don't like to use any third-party driver finder utilities. Especially sound drivers from Realtek. The drivers provided by Realtek are basic drivers and haven't been tuned for the motherboard you might have. If there is anything custom about the circuit design, they might not work (best case scenario) or they might behave oddly, or be unstable. So having the latest Realtek drivers might cause more problems than you think.

I have installed the realtek drivers and sonic suite plugins. The audio works, but surround does not work properly. I have a surround sound headset.

specs:
-Mobo: ASUS z170 pro gaming
-CPU: i5 6600k
-RAM: 32 GB Kingston hyperX fury DDR4
-GPU: GTX 980
-PSU: Cooler master GM 750M

I am running windows 8.1 with no overclocks at the moment.

I accidentally marked your question as the answer because the button in the mail is way too big... that's happened to me way too often.

It is listed as "sonic suite plugins" in the programs list.

My headset is the Sennheiser PC 360, which I just noticed to have confused with the PC 363D, which is surround. Mine is stereo. derp. Anyhow, I do notice a degradation in overall sound quality and since stereo can, to a certain degree, give 3D feedback, I also noticed a degradation in that(although it might've been an issue with Rust, which I've been playing a lot lately). EDIT: asked my friend, who has a stereo headset as well, whether he has noticed the crappy surround in Rust. he has, so I think this might be the problem with surround. or I might be an idiot because stereo cannot give 3D feedback at all. I don't know, I barely know anything about this stuff.

The problem is also in my microphone, which my friends have noticed to be terrible ever since I am using this new motherboard.

Ok, I unselected the best answer.

As for software surround this is a touchy subject. Most people don't find that the directional cues work for them. Simulated surround works with what's knows as HRTF (Head Related Transform Functions) which are essentially complicated math functions to simulate how your ears and brain work together to determine directionality of sound. So adding delays, and or reverb, changing phase and amplitude. These things alter the sound and to some make it sound muddy or distorted rather than the desired effect. HRTF doesn't work well if your head size and / or your ear shape is outside the "normal" range. Also some manufacturers do a better job with HRTF than others.

So I'd leave the audio set to stereo if you don't find the simulated 7.1 works for you.

As for your microphone, what are the issues. Do you sound distorted? Too loud? Too quiet?

The mic's audio quality is just really bad according to my friends. They have also complained of a lot of background noise, and editing my noise gate in ts3 didn't help this.

Not for the error. what I have noticed however is that everything seems to work fine... the surround sound issues were just rust being weird and the mic quality was so bad because I had selected my monitor's mic in the teamspeak setup. did you notice any issues or is it just the annoying error message for you too?

Yeah, there was no sound at all. I checked the versions from the drivers, they said all is newest and ok, but then i searched my motherboard's manufacturer site and downloaded again the latest drivers, and now all works fine. So don't allways trust for update checker, but trust outlanders, they speak bad english like me lol :p

I mostly stand on the same side, but...

1: i cant use ubuntu anymore because i need things that it doesnt supperts so i had must change to windows back,

2:my motherboeard (asus maximus viii) on his support site gives the realtek download option only, so first i allways try the things out, that the producer recommends and that is the realtek (since that update i still don't have any problem).

You might have misunderstood me (your #2), you definitely need Realtek drivers, but you want the ones that ASUS provides, not the ones from Realtek directly. ASUS takes the generic Realtek drivers from Realtek and tweaks them based on their designs and to their specifications. That's why I said it's best to download them from the motherboard maker and not directly from Realtek. Actually ASUS has a repository on a Realtek FTP site with their latest versions of the Realtek driver that they have tweaked. These aren't made available for download via ASUS's download site.
