Last year I caught the MSI Z87-GD65s onsale for $30 (after rebate) at Frys and bought 2 of them. One I used in a build with an i5-4670 with no issues.

Now I'm thinking about a new build using the i5-4690 but see conflicting results out there about having to flash the mobo bios. Is that only for the OC version (4690k) or is it something I should expect to do with the non-OC?

Thanks.

depends on what bios was shipped on the board from the factory??

if it has say bios 01 on it out of the box and the haswell refresh chip you want to use needs bios 04 then you need to flash it to bios 04 ''AHEAD'' of installing the new refresh chip

You mean because the Z87 needs a BIOS flash to support a Haswell Refresh processor? That's not a problem. I got a MSI Z87 MPower Max and it will boot to the BIOS with the new processors. I downloaded the newest BIOS to a flash drive (on another PC) and the motherboard has a built in flashing utility. It was easy and ran perfectly afterward.

Yeah in short thats what I'm wondering, if I'll need to flash this mobo for the Haswell Refresh.
