Hi, I have ordered a few computer components and will be attempting to put them all together over the next few days. This is my first build, so I'm going into this pretty clueless, but I am slowly learning from forums such as this, and web videos, etc. I am installing a Corsair H90 into a Phanteks Luxe case, my question is...

How do I position the case fans and the cooler fan? The Luxe's stock fans are positioned as follows:

1 x 140mm front bottom
1 x 140mm back top
1 x 140mm top (positioned at rear)

As I understand, Corsair reccomend intalling the H90 as an intake(?) in the back-top position - which is where the current Luxe stock fan is positioned. The other Luxe stock fan is on the top in the rear fan position, so I can't mount the Corsair's fan in that position either.

Has anyone got any advice or experience with the H90 and Luxe?

Thanks in advance,

Wiggly

If it helps, the specs are:

EVGA 850W 80+ Gold ATX power supply
Samsung 950 PRO 256GB M.2-2280 SSD
Western Digital 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM HD

1| You'll need to make sure that you place the H90 at the rear of your chassis. Even thought the manufacturer states that the cooler should be oriented as an intake you're best option is to orient it as an exhaust. you'll see 1 Deg C hit in temps but what you're not sacrificing is the airflow inside your case.
2| The case comes with front fan mounting options though with only a 200mm fan there you're fine as the airflow will be greater with lower db when compared to a 140mm fan.
3| If you have 2 sets(2x4) of long screws you could work with a push/pull setup on your H90...?
4| What's stopping you from removing the stock fans and experimenting with H90 orientation and placement options? Inf act you might make your system look better by...

Hi Lutfij,

I apologize for the delay in replying, and many thanks for taking the time to answer. As a noob to PC building I have learnt a LOT building this rig, and what an adventure!

I took your advice and positioned the H90 as an exhaust at the rear of the case and it seems to work just fine - I can't understand why Corsair reccomend it as an intake? Anyway, the Luxe doesn't have a dust filter at the rear, so positioning it as an exhaust makes more sense. I bought a couple of extra Phanteks 140mm fans, so the current setup is:

1x200mm intake fan front
1x140mm intake fan front/base
H90 fan exhaust rear
1x140mm fan rear/top

Seems to work a treat, my CPU is running super cool. I did some calculations and worked out that my case has a slight positive air flow, so dust should be blown out of the case's nooks and crannies, but I will probably buy an extra 120mm fan to place as another intake fan on the base, just to increase the positive pressure a little bit more (I noticed a few dust particles on my graphics card recently).

I didn't bother using the case's fan controller PWM hub because that needs to be plugged into the 'CPU Fan' 4 pin socket on the motherboard - which the H90 needs to be plugged into! Bit of a design flaw on behalf of the Asus Maximus Hero VIII Mobo, so instead the fans are plugged directly Mobo's fan ports, thus all the fans are running at 100% all the time - which is fine because they're really quiet.

Yeh so the PC is running great and I am enjoying using it! Again, many thanks for your advice it was really helpful, and sorry it took so long to reply.

Cheers,

Wiggly
