Hi, I have a laptop that was stock windows 8 and it doesn't seem to like running of windows 10 so i have done a fresh install to windows 7 home premium x64 with SP1 and when i boot up and check for updates it just keeps checking and never actually finds updates. I have multiple win7 machines that have no problems. It is an AHCI mobo if i remember correctly, Im not to sure what AHCI mode is apart from its supposedly faster. Also when i go into my installed updates theres only one update listed there and it cant be uninstalled.

Any help is great i've literally had this laptop for a year and its been sitting there with no OS for months up untill now

its an ASUS X553M if that is anyhelp

Also is it possible for certain machines to not be able to run windows 7? there is an option in the BIOS that i changed from windows 8 to 7 so im guessing its ok

I have had times where... after a fresh reinstall... Windows Update would run for up to an hour before displaying results... If it's only been 10 min... then I wouldn't worry... Also, it is possible that it is running in the background and began downloading uploads silently. You can verify this by looking at the Notification Icon for Windows Update... it will tell you there what it's doing.
