Windows 7with sp1 not downloading found updates

On a fresh install of Windows 7 I downloaded and installed sp1. All sp1 updates installed. Scanned for updates. Took about 3 hours. Found 187 updates. Took off 2 of them pertaining to the update to 10. So i have 185 updates to install.
Now it says downloading updates. It stays at; "Downloading 185 updates (0 kb total, 0% complete)."

This is the second time in the last 12 hours or so that I have tried to install all the updates for Windows 7 with sp1 on my computer. This is the only computer it has ever run on.

The exact same thing happened the first time. I let that run with it saying "0kb total, 0% complete" for about 4 hours. It never started downloading. I thought maybe I had done something wrong so i reinstalled Windows.

The first time i did not install anything else on my system and just let the updater do its' thing. (which it didn't do) This time i installed all my drivers and my antivirus(avast).

Is it going to come down to not installing the post sp1 updates, and just keeping it the way it is currently?

This is becoming fairly common. My advice (from personal experience), make sure Windows Updates is configured to run automatically and leave on over night, while you are sound asleep. Eventually, the system will get updated.

MS seems to be slowing down/reducing the updating resources for Win 7. It is also a fairly old OS and there are MANY updates to sort out and apply.

This method has worked for many (search the site and you'll see what I mean).

Good luck.

The updates had already been found. It is a matter of them starting to download. There is a chance if I reset the updater then turn on automatic updates Microsoft will try to put windows 10 on my machine. This is the last thing i want. I will however hold the link.

Any other advice will also be well appreciated.

It finally started the downloads. It only took 3 hours to begin. This has been one big ball of fun. Took 3 hours to start downloading the found updates. That took 4 hours to find. Of course next I will have to download and install Steam and the couple games i am playing. I guess i will be back to gaming tomorrow.

I would update to 10 if it wasn't for them axing WMC. I don't own a TV but i do have a tuner I run through that program. Also i am a fan of the 1st and 4th Amendments which that OS seems to try circumvent. Still I guess I will have to go there eventually if a DX12 game come out that I want to play. Or if i ever get the dough to upgrade my rust bucket of a pc.

Both of you gave good advice. I can't however give you both best answer so i will go with COLGeek who posted first .

Thank you for your help.

Glad it finally worked. :) And you can turn off the phone home aspect of Windows 10 if you're so inclined. I really do like it better than 7.
