FX-8320 w/ GTX 970 vs. i5-6600K w/ GTX 960

Solution
Please provide a list of games and programs you intend to use.

8320 IF
- Games and programs you use scale to over 4 cores (most games do not) (Gaming and recording at the same time is a good use case)
- Games and programs you use will not require a lot of CPU power

6600k IF
- Games and programs only use 1-4 cores
- Games and programs require more CPU power to run good and only scale to a couple cores (Arma and DayZ for example)
- i5 is generally better in most cases.

Both GPUs will be fine for 1080p gaming. The 970 is actually overkill for someone gaming at 1080p but would be very welcome when running games on ultra at 1920x1080. If you are running at 1440p, the 970 is the best choice.

The best combination would be the i5 and 970...

The best combination would be the i5 and 970 but i am sure you have a budget constraint. I would go with the 6600k and 960 simply because the skylake platform is much newer than the out dated AM3 platform. Skylake has PCIe 3.0, more USB 3.0, DDR4, and faster CPUs available. AM3 is very old and not recommended.

Thanks for the reply. Will probably be doing gaming/gameplay (don't know which games) and video editing w/ Sony Vegas. I can always save up later for the 970.
