do you suggest if i wanna save up to buy multiple graphic cards for it in the future

it apparently supports 3 way crossfire and 2 way sli and i have no clue as to why the sli is limited or if all the slots are pcie 3 16x

i mean within a reasonable budget ,, what 2 nvidia cards or 3 amd cards would you buy , a reasonable price ? i currently own an asus r9 270x , is it gonna be good if i can buy two more r9 270x's and would it work if they were not asus ?

SLi requires the GPU's to be at minimum 8x-8x each. While Crossfire can drop down to 4x. Only way to do 3 way SLI on a non workstation class chipset (X99) would be to get a motherboard with a PLX chip. The slots may be 16x long but only the top slot at connection for 16x, the others are most likely 8x than 4x

I wouldn't bother with adding a third card for Tri-Crossfire. In my opinion, the performance increase does not justify the cost.

If you look at the specifications for the z170x gaming 3, you'll note that the third PCI-Ex16 slot is running only at x4. SLI requires all slots to be running at a minimum of x8. This is why the board will only do two cards in SLI.

It depends you could go with 2x980ti's if you cpu can handle it. For sli you need to have atleast 2 pcie x8 slots and 16 pcie lanes. Where as for crossfire you need atleast 2 pcie x4 and only 8 pcie lanes. Also brand doesn't matter for crossfire or sli. They will work for example evga and asus can work together fine. Also different versions of the same card for example a titan x and a titan x sc will work since the only difference is the titan x has a lower clock speed. When mixing different versions of the same card they will downclock to the slower cards speed.

cause even if i save up for a year or two to buy 3 390's , my dad's gonna whoop my can , just kidding but i have to save a long time for 3 390's , i'm looking for something more reasonable that's gonna be future proof , like you guys say ; but i'm still sure when i buy those intel has already released their 7th or 8th gen 10 nm cpu /motherboard , so you see where i'm going ?

Thanks for your informative post , next time i'm gonna push my dad to buy me a lga 2011(3) on an x99 chipset
