I just did a fresh windows 7 pro install on a refurbished XPS 9100 machine. The machine seems to be running OK with the exception of one major problem. It won't properly read any USB Flash drives.

When a USB drive is attached, it shows up in devices. I can see it under Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Devices and printers. See screen shot link below. It's the Cruzer Fit USB drive.

However, it does NOT show under my Computer.

It seems to show up fine under device manager as well. It shows it as a disk drive, and shows a USB Mass Storage device. But I CAN'T access it. I have also tried to attach it to all the different USB ports, I have also used an external HD via USB. Same thing happens. It sees the device, it shows under "devices" but I cant access it or any of the files under Computer.

Also, it does show under disk management as disk "I".... see second screen shot.

Please help!

Solution
Bro try this.
Step 1- Right click My Computer.
Step 2- Click on Manage.
Step 3- On the left panel Click Device Manager.
Step 4- The middle panel click on Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
Step 5- Locate your USB.
For example,
Mine was Cruzer Blade.
Step 6- Click on it and check the device status.
For example,Mine was "There are no drivers installed"
Step 7- Once confirmed Click on the Driver tab.
Step 8- Uninstall the driver.
Nope I'm not trolling...it worked for me.
Plus it didn't delete any of my files.
Hope this helped.
And Sorry for the long post.
