Should I get windows 8.1?

Hello, I'm coming from a windows 7 user and I will be building a new gaming pc with a Dell S2415H which I think will look really good with windows 8. Is windows 8 "Bad" for gaming or does it have any effect on gaming? I will mainly be playing games like CS:GO and GTA 5. Please help me decide if I should get windows 8 or stick with 7.

Windows 10 is a free upgrade through July for any Windows 7, 8, 8.1 valid copy.

To be honest, I'm not even sure if your win7/8 needs to be a legit copy for the win10 upgrade.

It 'may' Upgrade, but you would be left with an unactivated OS. With all the limitations thereof.

I dont know. He had an extra windows 8 os and he placed the files that comes on the disc to a usb because my new pc does not have a cd-rom.

When you install Windows 8 you need to enter a license key. Did he give you that? If he did not and its not valid like your Windows 7 copy is not valid you will have problems. If its "unlocked" then that is a pirated copy.
