So, my pc broke down and i need to recover my files ASAP. I've tried to buy a external cable for hdd but suddenly they run out of stock and its very rare to find (unless is laptop hdd).

My last resort is inserting my HDD to my friends computer (for short : adding a another HDD)

i know its a simple question but there's something bothering me.

Yeah, you can add another HDD to Computer if it was reformat. But i've got a HDD with files also with OS on it (Win 7).

Question:

Does it work if i put my HDD (with Drivers and OS from my computer) to existing computer?
Or the pc will not boot?

i hope you can help me, thanks!

Hey there, Douglasdougs.

As long as the HDD is healthy and has no issues - you should have no problem connecting it as a secondary storage drive to another computer. It should pop-up in Windows Explorer (This PC, My Computer) and you should be able to browse its directories and recover your files. However sometimes you may have to assign new drive letters to the partitions of the HDD in order for them to appear in Windows Explorer. Here's how to do it: How to change the drive letter assignment in Windows.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how it goes.
