Hello
A new build in here. A bit confused about storage! I've decided to get an SSD to use it only for Os and the HDD for gaming storage. Is it a good decision? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey there, Neumann!

I believe you should follow a detailed Windows Install & Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs and make sure you don't mess things up with the storage configuration. Otherwise, you'd need to start from scratch again.
Having a primary SSD for boot and a secondary HDD for storage is one of the best performance storage configurations for your system. You'd definitely experience it, especially if it's your first time using a solid-state drive for boot.
The most important thing to remember is to have only the SSD plugged to the motherboard at the time of the Windows installation. Otherwise, you are prone to encounter an OS confusion and have your system files scattered randomly across the SSD & HDD. This could potentially cause you a lot of booting issues.

Keep me posted if you have more questions & Good luck with your new rig! :)

Hey,
Partly depends on budget, but in general:

1) SSD (Windows, apps)
2) HDD (Gaming, Windows backup, videos etc)

Games will load faster on the SSD (approx 1.5X to 3X) but for most games that's not a huge deal. Maybe 10 to 30 seconds savings at beginning of game and savings later with level loads.

It does matter for games like SKYRIM that do a lot of loading (buildings, jumping around map etc).

a) Install Steam (like normal to C-drive)
b) create a folder on HDD from Steam settings-> Library.. (i.e. "E:\Steam")
c) when installing a game choose the E-drive folder (HDD) usually.

Enough space for several games in addition to the OS etc. At least 100GB likely for games on a 250GB SSD. Can also add another SSD later if needed and put another Steam folder there (can have on per drive). Moving games between folders is simple: can create backup of game, delete game, restore then choose different game folder.
