I've recently bought a Supermicro x7dca-L Motherboard, along with two, xeon x5460 3.16ghz quad cores to go into the dual sockets that the motherboard provides. 8gb ram currently installed with a Radeon 7850 2gb video card installed. I made this system to have 8 logical cpus, not virtual, as this processor DOES NOT support hyperthreading.

Problem I am having is that CPU-Z, and windows task manager is only showing 4 cores, now, could this be that perhaps one of the cpu's isn't seated right or am I missing something? Is there information as to why it is only showing 4 cores with 4 threads? PLEASE HELP ME SOLVE THIS!

Also, I'd like to add that the bios says 8 of 8 logical cores. So, the bios sees all 8 cores, but windows 7 64 does not.

If you are using Win7 Professional and above, click Run=> type msconfig => select second tab in the top => additional options button (may be not correct, I'm translating from russian win7) => click on cpu number and choose how many you want => click apply, ok. Enjoy! (Restart may be needed)

I am using this rig as a gamer. For any concerns, I can assure you that this config plays all games at 60fps. It's very fast. My issue was the OS, I used win 7 ultimate and it fixed the issue. Thanks.
