I am building a new PC and I'm having some trouble choosing the right CPU for me. I'm all set on the graphics card (GTX 970), PSU (750W), Cooling (Water cooling), and storage, but I can't find a good CPU to fit my needs.

I've been leaning towards an Intel CPU but at the moment I'm not too sure.
I need a CPU that:
1. Is good for gaming and will provide a non-laggy experience on high settings
2. Is good for 3D modelling and fast rendering
3. Is under $300
4. Can overclock
5. Pairs well with the GTX 970 4GB
6. (Preferably) Has onboard graphics

I do not care about:
1. Clock speed (Although preferably over 3Ghz)
2. Whether it's Intel or AMD, as long as it is good for what I need
3. What socket it is, I do not yet have a motherboard
4. What RAM it works with, I do not yet have RAM

I am currently looking at the Core i7 4770k and the Core i5 6600k, but I am not sure if they will be good, and if they are good, which one to get over the other.

Like I said before, I do not have a motherboard yet so any socket is fine. I am planning to get a badass Asus ROG Motherboard.

Thanks.

Me too. Works well and excellent price/performance.

The i7 5820K is a lot better and there are six or seven mATX boards. The ASRock X99M Extreme 4 is about the cheapest I would use.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/x99m%20extreme4/ About $164 with rebate.

The i7 6700k seems a bit too expensive.

The i7-5820k would be great because of it's 6 cores but unfortunately I cannot find any Micro ATX motherboards with the 2011-3 socket. Sorry, I thought that the 2011-3 socket had Micro ATX motherboards.

I may suggest a motherboard since no one mentioned it:
What do you think about the MSi X99A SLi plus LGA 2011-v3?

Seems it fit the i7-5820K you are interested in. It has good features such as: 6 USB 3.0 and 2 more USB 3.1, and a Maximum Memory Supported of 128GB so you can upgrade it in the future if needed... etc, plus it comes in a reasonable price $200.

If you are going to seriously do rendering (not once a week) then hyper threading is a must. I would suggest the 1231v3 Xeon. It will run on z/h97 motherboards, costs way less than the 4770k but has no igp and clocks a little bit lower (3.4 to 3.8 turbo).

Or you could go with the 1230v5 (same deal only skylake now) but the problem here is that the motherboards have to be c232 or c236. At this point the selection is not great.

Generally the 5820k is the best (new not used) solution for what you are looking for. If you are located in USA, you could buy one for dirt cheap from micro center.

The 5820k fits your needs.

The 6700k is too pricey ATM, it's just not worth it over other processors such as the 5820k or 4790k. The 6 cores and 12 threads in the 5820k will benefit you in rendering, plus it's a great gaming CPU

Agreed. The 1231v3 is an excellent choice for those with a dedicated gpu. I have this cpu and only spent $210 on it at microcenter. Great value for an "i7" as it is basically an i7 4770.
