DDR4 won't boot at anything above 1600mhz

Hey guys, long term problem that i've learnt to live with but still niggles at the back of my head, so trying here to see if anyone knows anything.

I built a new computer probably about half a year ago and everything works fine apart from the RAM speeds, once booted, albeit slow for whatever reason, everything is still working fine.

I've got a 6700k cooled with a Corsair H80i, an ASUS Hero VIII, and i've tried about 3 different sets of RAM all on the QVL. When hitting the MEMOK button on motherboard, it says that the RAM should default to 1600mhz speed, which is ludicrous considering base speed for ddr4 is 2133. Occasionally it will find them at 1866 but this is completely unstable and causes almost imminent blue screens. None of the XMP profiles are stable. Essentially anything above 1600 seems a no go, even upping the agent voltages etc. I've RMA'd the motherboard once and exactly the same happened with the second one, and i've even tried the trick of people saying that the cooler is too tight and it can cause issues. Is it possible that I have a 6700k with one of the worst IMC's in history? Surely it wouldn't have got through testing if it was so badly crippled..

At this point i'm going to end up biting the bullet and buying a pre-build 6700k mobo ram bundle as I cannot pinpoint the problem at this point. Any ideas from you guys?

Edit: When I say it doesn't boot, anything above 1600mhz will 90% of the time just show an error code 55 on the MEMOK LED's, which indicates "No Memory Found".

Have you updated your motherboards bios? When you select the xmp profile it will ask you something about the cpu also cluck no or whatever the other choice is aside from yes and that should implement the xmp profile. Have you made sure you arent sending more than the correct voltage too it? I believe it should be 1.2 volts but if its in auto it may not be sending it correctly.

Yeah i've got the MOBO BIOS on the latest, I've done as you suggested previously selecting no and using the XMP profile, which then causes it to go straight to error 55 again and i've changed the voltages are correct, even upped some of the other voltages marginally such as the system agent etc as specified elsewhere.

After RMA'ing one about 5 months ago I don't think I can again. I don't know whether i'm willing to get another one and risk it being something else. Might just bite the bullet, buy a new bundle of mobo ram + cpu and use that to see which parts were faulty, sell off the rest..
