Hello friends,

Presently I have a -
Dell S2240l
i3 4130
gtx 750
8gb ddr3 1333hz
corsair vs550 watt psu

I want to upgrade my pc so that I can play the latest games and past games at high/ultra at 60fps at 1080p. So, after hours of research I am thinking of getting i5 4460 + zotac gtx 970 and overclock it a bit.

What are your thoughts? Do you think it will be able to hold up for the next 2-3 years at high? Or do you guys think that i5 4690 + r9 380x will be better? Help me with your solutions but keep in mind that I have a fixed budget and cannot extend it whatsoever. I live in India and the prices are not same which you guys see on newegg, so please keep that in mind.

Just give me your frank opinions on my system and how will it fare?

Thanking all of my good mates in advance.

YUP!!! It'll do.. However, don't forget to get a SSD(if comes under budget) it will increase the overall performance of your PC. If you can't get a SSD its fine. Your PC will be good to go for another 2-3 years as per your expectation. Happy GAMING! :) ;)

Keep an eye on the prices between the 4460, the 4590, the 4690, and the 4690K because sometimes you will find the better one for a lower price.

The GTX 970 will play most games at smooth 1080p/60fps. The R9 380x is less than the GTX 970, the R9 390 is the peer of the GTX 970, but the R9 390 means you would have to upgrade your power supply, so I would stick to the GTX 970.

As for card versions, I think the MSI GTX 970 Gaming is the better version. And getting an i5, it might be advisable to buy a different heat sink than stock, someone recommended the Cryorig H7 to me in lieu of the ubiquitous Hyper 212 EVO.

I will recommend i5 4690K (which is good at overclocking) + R9 380X (which can be crossfired in future). Go with this system build and it'll definitely hold up for next 5 years (almost cause the technology world is changing drastically).

I hope I was helpful. :)

I am grateful that you helped but the thing is that I have a mobo which doesnt support overclocking. Moreover crossfires and sli does not offer a boost in performance in all games. Only in some. So, I dont think I would go that way.

Any other advice that you have would be really nice.

It all depends on what type of games you want to play. Some games are CPU-intensive so they will gain some benefit from more mhz, although I don't think 300mhz will make any noticeable difference. It's only a difference of whether you need standard/turbo clock performance or overclocked performance, 1 Ghz will make a difference.

Since your motherboard doesn't support overclocking, then I don't think it will make any difference between the 4460/4590/4690, buy whichever one is cheapest.

Actually consptheory77 is right. If it doesn't support overclocking. Then I don't think it will make much of a difference between 4460/4590/4690.

The Difference between 4460 and 4690:
Frequency (MHz) 3200 ---------- 3500
Turbo Frequency (MHz) 3400 / 3400 / 3300 / 3200 ----------------------- 3900 / 3900 / 3800 / 3700

4690 is a bit better and faster than 4460 in higher performance in graphics programs and all types of applications but the when in price-performance ratio the 4460 takes over 4690. I mean if you have a little bit more cash then go for 4690 or you can always have 4460 or 4590 according to your budget.

My new recommendation is GTX 970 with Intel i5 4690 (which will give you a bit better gaming experience). And I assume you already have a better PSU(which is kind of the most important part of your PC).

I hope I was Helpful. :) ;)
