Recommended PSU Wattage (GTX 980 Ti Asus Strix SLI)

So, here is my setup:

Case: Cooler Master Cosmos SE
Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VIII Hero
CPU: i7 6700k
GPU: 2x GTX 980 Ti Asus Strix 6GD5 OC SLI
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Nepton 240M
RAM: Kingston HyperX Predator (4x4)
SSD: Intel 750 series 400 GB (PCIe)
HDD: Undecided as of now but there will be one

I'm planning to take Cooler Master V1000

I've looked long and wide about various benchmarks and even threads on here and none have really gave me a definite answer. Some say that about 900W should be good, other says that I'd need a 1200W PSU. But I guess this might depend from PSU to PSU. Cooler Master, for one, I've heard to be very very efficient.

Also take notice that I will conduct significant overclocking.

And last, I hope this thing would actually fit into a Cosmos SE. It's nowhere specified how much space there is for a PSU. I'm kinda new to PC-building (this is my first one, in fact).

Right now you're at about 700-750 watts if you have everything going full tilt 100%, and that's at stock speeds. And you're planning on 'significant overclocking'. That means even more wattage. While a 1000w PSU would theoretically handle it, you would (as mentioned) be running close to the limit. As with everything - you don't always want to run on the ragged edge, you always want to have some headroom for 2 reasons.

1) longevity. Running the ragged edge shortens lifespan.
2) efficiency. Efficiency sweet spot is usually anywhere from 40-75%.

So - you'll be running out of the most efficient spot on the map for your load if you again have everything running full tilt. To that end, I'd jump one more level on the PSU and go for a...

Any regular PSU should fit in that case. The size of PSUs are pretty standard. I would recommend going for a higher wattage PSU than just what you NEED, especially if you are going to be overclocking, etc. I think if you are using more that 80% of the PSUs maximum wattage constantly, it will lower the lifespan of the PSU because it is harder on it. I would advise Seasonic, EVGA, or Corsair (not the CX series). Cable management will be much better if you get a modular power supply, but all of those high wattage PSUs are modular anyway. For a HDD, I would highly recommend getting a Western Digital; they are a good price, and very reliable. Hope I helped!! :)

You're already spending a ton on some VERY expensive hardware, at this point what's another $100 or so to protect that hardware.

I'd do the Corsair AX1200i. Excellent PSU, very efficient, digital controls of power delivery, monitoring via link and software, and excellent build quality. Again, spending an extra $100 over what you would already need (850-1000w gold rated unit) is worth it when you have a $2k build like yours.
