980Ti Hybrid Overheating

I have an EVGA 980Ti Hybrid (new as of January), not overclocked or anything. When I run certain games, such as Rust and Tomb Raider (the two most problematic games), the gpu overheats to (usually) about 83 degrees, and when it reaches this point, my computer shuts down.

I have turned down the voltage and speed of the card, but it's lowered my fps to 10% lower than my 970 machine. RMA isn't something I want to do, as the graphics card was a gift, and I don't want to offend the giver, although I would be open to it.

I can't find much information about this online. Is this a common issue, does it have a fix at all? I'm somewhat worried that the pump is kaput, as I have changed fans to massive airflow ones.

do you got the cooler upside down ?? lines should be at bottom [mounted at top sucks rising trapped air back in to lines ]

''I can't find much information about this online.'' go to evga forums ? lot of time its how guys mounted the radiator wrong .. then in life nothing is 100% perfect you could just of got a lemon card

first off your gpu getting to 83c should only down clock your gpu automatically it isnt going to shut down your whole pc. You have an issue somewhere else. What are your cpu temps? The way nvidia cards work is they run up to whatever specified temp you set as max, once they reach that temp they will downclock themselves in order to maintain that temp or until they get below that temp then normal clock speeds and voltages return to normal. If your pc is shutting down completely from the gpu hitting its normal operating temperature then you are the first i've ever heard of this happening too. Ever........

Power supply make and model? If the card is the problem then it needs to be returned. Whomever gave it to you should understand it's not much use broken.

at least I would and not be offended in any way I would hope you would do so and get a fully working card if that was the case to do so ...

The power supply is a corsair CS750, and I'm sure it's not the issue as I've tested the pc with my spare and it still shuts down.

The radiator's mounted the proper way round. I wouldn't think it was the gpu if it wasn't for the fact that previously, under load, it reached just over 50 degrees. One day it just suddenly began reaching insane temps and the pc began to die.

That is a good point about the RMA. I just didn't want them to feel bad for the trouble, I guess (my friend broke my previous gpu and felt so guilty he bought me a new one).

That's what I believed it should be doing. It's just that consistently, when my gpu hits 83, the pc just dies. Under load, my CPU never hits more than 54 degrees. Possibly my motherboard, as recently two sata ports have stopped working?

I imagine if evga approves the rma they may cross ship a new hybrid card to you anyway . I would at least get with there support and get that ball rolling ..

start a thread at evga forums as wel just to see what input you get from there guys ?? maybe interesting

I think is a great card and hope you good luck
