hello i have been having problems with my cpu overheating lately and its only when i have both of my 980 ti's plugged in and in sli. If i just have them in sli i go to play a game and it plays for a little and i get a message saying cpu is at 80c and computers shutsdown. Then if i only have one in i can play the game no problem and my cpu doesnt go above like 60c. My computer idles at around 35-40c. I have a corsair h100i cooler and a i7 3820 cpu. also when playing the game my gpu's temps are fine.

Well as you know Two 980 Ti cards are going to kick out some heat.

With a corsair H100i I am surprised the I7 gets up to 80c.

How big is the case or Chassis you have?

The cause is most likely because it is small.
But the other point is if the 240mm Rad for the H100i water cooling solution is mounted on the top of the case and internal.

Then it stands to reason that the heat from the two 980 Ti cards since heat rises is the cause to high cpu temps.

The resolution is to remove the Rad of the H100i from the top of the system to the external back side of the case.
So the two Two 980 cards do not heat the Rad up as the same time as the water cooling loop.
If you think about it, it makes sense as to why the I7 cpu is reaching 80c.
The two 980 Ti cards with the heat from them rising would be heating the 240mm rad.
As well as the I7 and the water loop while in operation. To much thermal build up of the 240mm Rad.

Also check to see if the H100I has a variable pump flow rate, if so change the RPM or flow rate.

After moving the 240mm Rad, reverse the fan orientation so the fans pull air in through the Rad instead of them pushing air.
And add some extra case fans to draw air in to the system case or place at the top to expel air from the two 980 Ti cards.

If the case is not big enough I suggest you buy a bigger one particularly where you can mount a 240mm Rad on the back side of the case, or that has more height to it.

Food for thought. :)
