hello, I have an lga 1366 intel dx58so board with a xeon x5650 overclocked to 3.79 ghz and turbos to 4.14 ghz on all cores stable with a bclk at 189 along with a dual channel kit of corsair vengeance lp 1600 4gb x 2, but im only running at 1512 mhz due to the native support for 1333. my question is, does changing the number of channels the ram operates in affect an overclock or with how much less or how much more of an overclock I can get? so if i were to install a triple channel kit, would this negatively affect me?

i have the same board with an i7920 i ram Tri- channel for years and and just recently changed to Dual channel and found that i can get a better OC than i did with the Tri-channel OC's on anything are tricky what works for one person may not work at all for another the best advise anyone can give a fellow overclocker is to take things slow and experiment

thats interesting to hear, can you still achieve the same cpu overclock? im thinking that the performance can be made up from the benefits of tri channel. if not, i know the board supports 16 gb ram max, but is that only in single channel with 4 sticks? or does it support 2 8gb sticks? also would you by any chance be willing to share your overclock settings, more of your memory at least. obviously it can vary greatly between our systems but id just like to see if there are any tweaks i may be able to make on this board. its been kinda hard to find any decent guidelines when it comes to this board. most of the people overclocking these cpus are on more expensive boards lol.
