I am trying to get help figuring out what I need to upgrade my GPU so that its no staying in low FPs and overheating. I recently had issues with Star Wars The Old Republic becoming too graphic heavy after the latest patches, and other newer games are also causing lags. I only recently (March 2016) have had issues where I cannot run on highest and must now run on lowest settings with severe gaming issues. I have cleaned my rig out and move it onto a new desk where I don't have to worry about the vents getting blocked between cleanings.
Basically, do I need to get a new Power Unit? What kind? And what cards would be beneficial in the Medium-High that would work on this rig?

I have a HP Pavilion p7-1225 Desktop PC, running an AMD Radeon HD 6550D Card.

the 750 ti is a huge upgrade since your resolution is so low

you dont have a separate video card, 6550d is the cpu's built in

run a game and monitor cpu temps, you are most likely thermal throttling

I do have a seperate card, its not the built in chipset. I installed it myself when I bought the PC.

There is an integrated chip as well, and I am not using the integrated GPU.

Its not my internal temps either.

I'm sorry. You were right, this is the built in GPU. I was thinking about my old PC that I replaced parts until it died and I got this one. I just took her apart today to do a compressed air clean and was thinking about when I reset the CPU heat sink. That I had to reset after cleaning her last year.
My apologies Maxalge.
I am still stumped as what I can do. This is the first integrated GPU PC I've owned, and she is already going on 7 years old since I bought her. What's confusing me is I don't know what to add or what I can add. I only have one free PCI slot in the case and two other smaller slots that I'm not sure what they are. They look like half the size of the PCI slots.

Again, I can do software no problem, but hardware reveals how noobish I really am at PCs.

that motherboard has a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot

so after you post back with your power supply make and model plus wattage

I can give you a gpu recommendation

the best you can get without changing that is a gtx 750 ti that does not need a 6-pin pcie cable

like this one:

anything better you also need to get a new power supply

How much of a power boost would I be looking to do? 450? 450+?
Just want to get a system that will last a little longer, without dropping the cash for a new rig. I knew that I would more than like have to up my power supply.
