Alright, so my 2005 Sony Vaio desktop computer (MODEL#VGC-RB34G)with Windiws XP Media Center Edition has had a severe problem going on. What happens: 1. I turn on computer 2. Actual PC starts up fine. 3. Prompted to select one of the safe modes, previous settings, or normal start up. 4. No matter what I select from normal or advanced boot menu, or configure in BIOS it begins to start Windows. 5. It freezes with the loading bar for 3 seconds (approx.) and reboots and repeats. I made it not restart if crash and got this: UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
STOP: 0x000000ED (0x835CC368, 0xC000009C,0x00000000, 0x00000000)
I think this is hard drive related or components connecting to HDD related.
It has enough space for 4 HDDs.
I already cleaned out all the dust.

Some specs (I don't know how to find out the rest, sorry):
RAM: 1024MB DDR SDRAM(Two 512MB sticks) 400MHz
HDD Storage: 250GB
HDD: Hitachi Deskstar (SATA)
HDD Model #: HDP725025GLA380
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 540J (3.20GHz, 1MB L2 cache)
Motherboard: Intel Desktop Board
GPU: ATI Radeon x300 (128MB Video Mem.)
Chipset: Intel 915G
Power Management: ACPI 1.0 Compliant

What I've tried:
2 other HDD separately and at same time.(I think compatibility issues)

Having HDD in another computer (Didn't even detect)

Cleaning out 11 years of dust. So much...

All the Safe Mode options

Advanced Boot options

BIOS configuration (Restored back to default for good measure each time)

Made sure all wiring was secure. -------------------------------------------------
What is wrong exactly? How do I fix it? What could've been possible causes? Could anyone tell me where root of problem is by reading STOP code?

I do NOT have OS disk, the XP came with system.

I can't buy anything ridiculously expensive.

I want to also keep the stuff from the possibly corrupted hard drive.

The PC has been sitting unplugged for a year now.(I tried all the stuff today though)

I have never changed any hardware or downloaded any system altering software

It first started slowing down in about 2011 or 2012. Stopped working summer 2014.

Actual computer boots up fine, but Windows never starts successfully.(Haven't seen desktop in forever)

I hope someone can help me fix this problem to revive my longest lasting system that was really good until this. Thank you so much for any help!

Solution

Just replace the machine then. It costs less than $300 to get something about 5x faster, and if you don't care for watching 1080p 60hz video it's just $175 will get you a replacement

Your HDD is gone. At this point you should just replace the whole damn thing, a Intel NUC can be had for ~$200 and will be several times faster!
So there is no way to retrieve the files from the HDD its been wiped clean possibly by malware?

By malware? Maybe.

In your case though, the disk just experienced hardware failure. If the data is more important than any amount of money, you can send it to a professional recovery agency, and they might be able to get the data back. It will cost you >$1000 on average though

What about the fact that another had drive I put in didn't get detected?

You stated that you didn't detect THAT disk in another computer, which would mean it's broken.

If you need to double check, get an IDE to USB enclosure (with power supply) and test the disks on another computer.

Any way, that computer is already garbage, time to replace it.
