GTX 670 upgrade for gaming and rendering

Hi everyone,
I'd like to upgrade my gpu ( the current one is a gtx 670 ). I use it for gaming and heavy rendering. My budget is around 500$ (max 600$). What GPU (Nvidia or AMD) would give me the best performance within this budget?

My current rig:
-CPU i7 3770k OC
-GPU gtx 670
-RAM 16gb corsair dominator platinum DDR4

For that budget you're looking at a GTX 970 or an R9 390X. That said, you would be wise to wait a few weeks to see just what NVIDIA and AMD have to offer in their new lineup. At any rate, waiting will also come with the benefit of the inevitable price drop that both companies (and their partner companies) drop prices to clear their current stock.
