Hi.

I am wanting to fit a new gpu to my stock Dell Vostro 460 i5-2400, 350w psu.
Looking at the dell forums there are only 3 (old) cards that are officially supported.

Has anybody had any success fitting a new card to this particular dell? I am looking at something like the geForce 750 ti in terms of performance and not needing to change the psu.

Thanks!

do some home work and see what known to work and what don't or reported issues ?

my disclaimer

some models of store bought computers [dell.hp,acer,ect..] may come with a ''locked or fixed'' bios and may not allow you to change certain hardware as a video card.. this is done to protect them from undue warranty claims and refunds .this is not done to hurt you but to protect them. you really need to see if that upgrade has been proven to work in your model first...

you got to know the the boards in these computers are not like the ones we use to do custom builds witch are open to upgrading with in the boards compatibly . the bios is custom made for there design and just for the parts they authorize to be used on there computers there only guaranteed to work as is out of the box as you bought it ,..

also these boards do not have to meet atx standards and there pci-e slot power may not do the required 75w needed for most higher end cards and can be limited to say 45 or 60w that is all thats needed with the low end factory oem cards that it may of shipped with

in the end it all your risk and you buy -- your try -- and hope it don't make you cry

Thanks for your reply. I have posted a similar question on the dell forum and have spent some time trawling the web for info. Like you pointed out there are a few similar questions that are either unanswered or incomplete. I will aim to update my own posts with any result I gave be it success or failure!

I received a reply from EVGA today stating that only 600 series and below are compatible.

I'm hoping that somebody out there who has a Vostro 460 and has upgraded their gpu can share their results.

UPDATE:
Ended up getting a cheap Sapphire HD5670 from eBay as this is one of the listed supported cards for this PC - installation was straightforward and am happy with the results.

well may work fine then may not at all ? as said that's all your risk ''you buy -- your try -- and hope it don't make you cry ''

dell only guarantees things on how it was sold new out of the box with what they put in it by them not a drop more . could not care less about you upgrading they prefer you buy there latest one if your old one is not doing its job .. that's what there in business for
