Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 vs Core i7 5820K

Suppose is self explanatory to be honest ?

The machine is only being used for music production with ableton live 9 and nothing else which will be faster in the end ?

thanks

Well, the Xeon has an 85w TDP, whereas the i7 has a 140w TDP. That doesn't mean that's what these chips will actually draw, but it gives you an idea.
Locked 8-core @ 2.4ghz / 3.2ghz turbo, or unlocked 6 core @ 3.3ghz / 3.6ghz.

I imagine the Xeon will have more total throughput, but you can probably make up for that difference with a mild overclock on the i7. Are you willing to overclock a machine used for work?

The i7 has more theoretical performance for both single-threaded and multi-threaded tasks. It will use quite a bit more power than the Xeon (hence the lower price), but it should outperform in every scenario unless you need more than 64GB of ram or 28 pci-e lanes. The two extra cores of the Xeon won't be enough to make up for its lower clock speed.

Nah man I don't like idea of over clocking at all, I do built I'm turbo boost which i know it can be okay but being is my life's work stored on that machine ID rather not, how much more power we talking ?
