Webcam buggy, but running strong without it. Should I switch processors, ram or the GPU?

So I have been recording minecraft in Xsplit and it has been working fine. When I put the Webcam in it starts to lag and had latency. I was wondering what it could be.

Do you guys what me to give you a full list of parts?

Here is three basic things:
Intel Core i5
16 GBs of ram.
Quadro K420(I know this is lame, don't flame me... I need better GPU...:( ...)

Thanks!
Diamond

Your webcam is fine, unless you're a camgirl don't bother upgrading it now. It's fine for corner of the screen commentary.

You don't need an i7 for minecraft and recording. (The Division and recording yeah sure)

A graphics card would help a lot though.

A 970 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-gtx970gaming4g $350 (max 98% of games at 1080p)
or a 960 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-gtx960gaming4g $250 (max 80% of games at 1080p)
would be good.

But before spending any money...

Try Process Lasso: https://bitsum.com/
You can use it to manually assign CPU core usage to minecraft and your recording software so they don't use the same CPU cores and this will better divide the load.

Also test a solo recording of your...
the webcam is a second recording is why probably.

Are you using a laptop? Find out your actual cpu, the i5 has been around for like 7-8 years now and there are many generations of it and they are not equal at all.

What kind of webcam is it, what software are you using for it?

I use a DIY computer that I built at home.

I have this list of parts:
Intel i5 6600k 4 core processor from this year. (unlocked) Socket is the LGA 1151
16 GBs of ram with 2400mhz (dual channel).
NVidia Quadro K420 1 GB GPU running 1920x1080p.
750 Watt power supply (Bronze)
11 Fans
Two WD Blue Spin Drives, One at 1 TB and 4 TB (OS is on the 1 TB drive)
MSI M5 Gaming Motherboard.
Razer Deathadder Chroma and Razer Blackwindow Chroma
Windows 10
Blue Yeti Blackout USB

The software I use is Xsplit Premium Game caster.
My webcam is the Logitech C920 Pro webcam.

I have a budget on things:

First the CPU which I would like to get an i7. Around $350.
Graphics card. Around $250
And a webcam around $150

It may not be one of the problems above but I gave you the info.

I don't understand your first sentence, do I need to run a different program to record my face?

Thanks,
Diamond

Also test a solo recording of your camera to see if it still is laggy.

And try another recording software just because: https://obsproject.com/

It looks like the c920 will always have a delay on it when recording/streaming though:
https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/webcam-latency-question-logitech-c910-c920.10517/

You may need to downscale it to 720p as well.

Thanks so much!

I do have three questions, and there are two things that I'd like to buy so I want your opinion.

The Process Lasso is confusing, for I don't see Minecraft in any particular file. This could be me just being a noob...

Are those the only two graphics cards that will work, because I know there are more.

Is there no way that I can shorten the delay because I don't see it in other Youtubers vids.

Next I would like to buy a new mouse, I will give the Deathadder to my Dad. I was thinking of getting the Mamba TE.
I also wanted the A40 Headset Gen2 because it is $120.

Hopefully you think they are good.

Thanks so much!

I really liked this graphics card.

amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-Gaming-GDDR5-Graphics/dp/B00NH5T1MS/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1458677348&sr=1-4&keywords=GeForce%C2%AE++GTX+970+GAMING+4G

Minecraft (and other software) won't show up unless it's running, it would be there though under minecraft.exe

There are other graphics cards that work, any other 960 or 970 would, but those are good matches for your GPU, I chose them because MSI makes the best of air coolers for the two cards. Only other concern would be the maximum GPU length supported by your case, look it up on the cases product page on the manufacturer's website

The delay seems to be inherent with the webcam, short of upgrading to a much more professional one, or getting an actual camcorder, as a lot of professional youtubers actually use I believe.

Things you can try:
Remove the drivers for the logitech webcam, and use the default microsoft ones.
Turn off any "auto focus/correction" settings for the webcam.

go into device manager, find the webcam, right click > properties > driver tab > Uninstall.

Also I know it may seem like you have room, but these GPUs can easily be like 11 to 12 inches long, hence why making sure you have the clearance before buying one and finding out it doesn't fit is important.

Hi,
So I have other issues. When I record it starts out fine, then it becomes weird. My voice is like 8 seconds before the video. Is this a cpu problem or a GPU problem? Is this because I use XSplit? I would think it would be because i HAVE ONLY 4 CORES, but TheDiamondMinecart uses 4 so...

Also I like this card a lot. http://www.amazon.com/ZOTAC-GeForce-GTX-Extreme-ZT-90107-10P/dp/B00S99Z7TS/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1458744352&sr=1-2&keywords=zotac+970

Thanks!

Your cores should be fine, Minecraft isn't that intensive, and your CPU is really powerful.
It could be an xsplit delay, you might want to ask on the xsplit forums about that.
If these are ONLY recorded videos, you could try recording the video and audio separately, and then edit them back together properly in a video editing program, most professional gamers/youtubers do something like this.

Only time you'd need them to all be together at the same time would be for a stream.

Did you try using ProcessLasso like I suggested to give the game and software different CPU cores to use?

The GPU is good and a good match for your CPU. If you used Nvidia's ShadowPlay feature to record gameplay it would take the load off your CPU though as well.

Hi,

So I am not a Process Lasso master, I need to learn so should I go to ProcessLasso.com?
OBS is being weird to, I could not select a source.

I have Adobe Premire Elements 14 so editing won't be a problem.
When I use Audacity to record my voice, XSplit to record my game and Minecraft, Minecraft crashes. Is this a GPU problem? (I play on servers)
I removed the drivers for the webcam but it did not work, what do I need to install to Skype, Record and Capture?

Thanks

Process Lasso is pretty easy, as you only need to do one thing to adjust your usage.
You'll see a big list of processes, find the ones for Minecraft.exe, Xsplit.exe and Audacity.exe
Right click on them and choose CPU Affinity > Always > Select CPU Affinity.
In the window that pops up, uncheck the cores so each program is not overlapping with another.
i.e. Minecraft only uses Core 0 (the first core) Xsplit only uses Core 1 and 2 and Audacity uses Core 3.

Minecraft should give you an error message when it crashes, that would tell you what it's having a problem with, if it doesn't you'd want to look in Event Viewer (look it up with search) and check under the Windows Logs and look in the Application and System ones to see where it's reporting minecraft.exe crashing and it will list a Faulting Module in there that will tell you what is breaking, and then you can google to see why that module/dll is crashing.

Your Xsplit recording settings may be too high as well.
You'll have to experiment with it a bit to find a setting that works well: https://supportdesk.xsplit.com/customer/en/portal/articles/2230699-local-recording-settings

I did process lasso and it did not effect it at all, it made it worse! This has to be a GPU and Software problem. I will use NVidia Shadow Play if I get a card.
I did not have any lag but it was wrong. I really think that it is a CPU problem.

OBS will only let you add sources from running programs, you gotta make a scene first (a collection of sources, multiple scenes let you do advanced things like quickly switch between entirely different sources of video combined with appropriate overlays)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tIn-KuJlD0

The reason I doubt it's the GPU, is because the GPU doesn't do anything with the recording software or audacity, it would only be used by minecraft, and minecraft doesn't really care much about the GPU, unless you're using a ton of high resolution texture mods, which would make you go over your cards vram limit.

Turn off Processlasso, Minecraft should use barely any CPU power, unless you've got a ton of redstone going on in your server or something.
And Minecraft and OBS should easily be able to share recording resources.
The webcam shouldn't be causing any problems either... my HD Pro C920 doesn't seem to lag out...

    1. Use OBS, the 64 Bit version specifically.
    2. Setup a new recording Profile (Profiles Tab > New)
    3. Use these Settings:
      A. Encoding: Encoder = x264, Use CBR = On, Enable CBR padding = On, Use Custom Buffer Size = On, Max Bitrate = 1000, Buffer Size = 0, Audio Encoding = AAC, Bitrate = 128, Format = 48khz, Channel = stereo
      B. Broadcast Settings: Mode = File Output Only, Filepath = wherever you want your video to be recorded. i.e. C:\Videos\Minecraft\.mp4 (last one is important, leave it like that)
      C. Video: Custom Resolution = 1920 x 1080, FPS = 30
      D. Audio: Desktop Audio Device = Default, Microphone = Microphone (Yeti Stereo Microphone)
E: Advanced: Use Multithreaded Optimizations = On, x264 CPU Preset = Very Fast, Encoding Profile = High, Use CFR = On, Custome x264 Encoder Settings = On, in the empty box put, without quotes, "crf=20"
    4. Click Ok to save settings.
    5. Right Click Scenes empty white box, choose Add Scene, name it.
    6. Startup Minecraft, having it running, not just the launcher, be at the main menu in game.
    7. Right Click Sources empty white box, Choose Add > Video Capture Device, Device = Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920, Press Configure and turn off Follow my face and Auto-focus, Save, Ok.
    8. Right Click Sources empty white box, Choose Add > Game Capture, Application = "[javaw]: Minecraft 1.9.2", click Ok.
    9. Click Preview Stream and then Edit Scene when it comes up. Click drag on the Red boxes in the corner to resize the webcam window and then drag it where you want it.
    10. Stop the preview, start recording and tell me how it goes.

Thanks for all of that info. I don't have the GPU yet and will be getting it soon, so could you please hang tight while I order it a so on. I will try that with this card and then with the 970 and see the different, I will be getting back to you in about 2 weeks. I'm getting the Zotac ECE 970. I talk to you soon.

Best,
Diamond

So I fibbed a little. I wnet ahead and got a 980 ti G1 Gaming from GIGABYTE. I went overkill... I will set my FPS to 60.

Ehh, It's not bad really, it just means you can now run all current games at 1080p on Max settings and still get like 90+fps.

But recording is still mostly CPU and Ram, unless you want to use Nvidia Shadowplay, or you can try the Nvidia Encoder in OBS, both will use your GPU more than standard x264 recording.
Here's a video explaining how: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF4_u-Jhptg
