Good Afternoon,

I installed an i7 4790K yesterday and after going into the BIOS menu and choosing performance it is still listing as 4.0 speed. Any advice?

Solution
The CPU is always listed as 4GHz in windows properties.
In order to monitor your real cpu speed you need a hardware monitor software like HWinfo.

Ok, have you tested the speed when you're putting the CPU under load? Like booting a game or something? The turbo won't be active all the time, as far as I know, not even with the performance setting unless you manually change the clock speeds. It should run at 4.4 Ghz whenever that's needed.

RCFProd,

I recently switched from an AMD FX 9370 and I am use to seeing when I right click on My Computer the CPU listing change from say 4.0 to 4.4. Are you stating this does not happen with intel CPUs?

Mine shows 3.5 Ghz in My Computer, always. But I can see in my task manager right now that It's running at 3.75 Ghz. Did you check your task manager too? In My Computer you should always see the base frequency shown, which is the correct value of 4.0 Ghz.
