Okay, I have a Z97 PC Mate motherboard, with a i5 4690k CPU, I would like to overclock from 3.5 to 4.0 using the OC Genie option in bios. Without overclocking my CPU seems to idle at 29-35 degrees Celsius, and load at 50-58 (FarCry Primal Ultra settings). Now when I overclock my idle changes to 45-51, quite a significant increase. I understand that idle is not whats really important but more so load... However my first question is, is it okay to idle at 45-51, for long duration of time though? My second question is when I over clock my load seems to be anywhere from 58-65 once again in FarCry Primal using ultra settings.

Now I know that these intel cpus can handle a lot of heat, but I want my CPU to not stress, I would rather have the life of my CPU last longer than make it work very hard in overclock. But if these temperatures and conditions are appropriate I will keep the overclock, but I would like an expert in overclocking to give that advice, meaning someone who has failed and succeed perhaps on numerous occassions and understands overclocking and safe ways to do it. So please, unless you know what you are talking about I do not want just your opinion, I want to know if in my particular situation if I should overclock or not?

I would also like to note that, I did use CPU burner in Kombuster during overclock, and It did cause stutter and freeze points. Which I immediately tried to stop. I know that stressing your system is different than normal gaming, but shouldnt the overclock also beable to handle the stress? or not necessarily?

Please someone give me reliable insight, I am knowledgeable at a basic PC level, I did build this PC myself, but I really do not know much about overclocking. I wish I did because I know the K series CPUs are great for overclocking...

As you can see from my signature, you can overclock even using a really low budget mobo and stock cooler, provided you keep the Vcore down to a level which does not overstress your motherboard or overload your CPU cooler.
1.15V is a normal voltage, which does not produce excessive heat. However, many 4690k will go over 4GHz on this voltage. mine went to 4.2.
I don't know about OC'ing intels, but in terms of FarCry using 58-65 CPU, that's good, it's means it's not a bottleneck. Also, if it's 58-65% used, before and after oc, then it's not going to affect your FPS at all. It's your GPU that is probably pegged at 100% and they usually are maxxed, because unless you use v-sync/gsync/freesync, the GPU will also try to put out as many frames as possible, so it will always max itself, unless the CPU can't provide information fast enough to max itself, and thus, a CPU bottleneck.

No,no not cpu percentage usage, cpu temps are at that during overclock lol

Expert overclocking advice: Don't use OC genie, or any other auto overclocking feature. (Because they usually set the CPU voltage far too high!)

Do it manually. There are lots of tutorials how to do it.
As a suggestion, set your CPU Vcore to 1.15V, and increase your CPU multiplier to 41. This will probably give you a nice stable overclock without generating too much heat.
If your computer crashes, reduce the CPU multiplier by 1 and try it again

If you have an aftermarket cooler, then voltages of 1.25V and CPU multiplier to 44 should be possible, but you will have to monitor the temperatures under load.

Reason behind me not using OC Genie? I was just going to use it because I am a noob at OCing... What software do you suggest I do this under? is the Vcore 1.15V, and CPU multiplier to 41 a pretty safe way to OC fi you do not know what you are doing? lol How do I know its a safe overclock, best test run software?

limited is fine, I realize the board is not that good and dated. But it does have overclocking abilities. I do not want to overclock very high, 4.0 would be fine. I just want to add a little boost. So far Lodders has given the best advice, can anyone else actually give me more direction on how to do this safely?

I am reading a beginners guide on overclocking intel right now... However, if you guys really think its just a bad idea to overclock using this board entirely, would it be best for me to just say the hell with it and go stock? I already am using Afterburner to overclock my GPU GTX 970, everything seems to be fine with no artifacts and fire strike score of over 10,000 now. So I wanted to minimally tweak my CPU now, but honestly if its not safe on this board then perhaps I will just not do it.

no software based overclocking tools, disable the OC genie and set to manual.

voltage set to manual as stated above try 1.2v, leave blck at default of 100 multi at 40.

test stability with prime 95 or OCCT. if it passes say an 20 minute test you are good for the most part.

you can either leave the voltage or try and lower it, keep testing and adjusting the voltage if it does fail on a core.

Perhaps you can answer this, When I overclock in my bios, I have CPU Ratio & CPU Ring... Now stock they are both set at 3500MHz, when I overclock do I change both values? or just one of these to the 41000MHz? And I noticed there is also a Ring Voltage, do I touch that typically or only change core voltage to the 1.15?
