Should the CPU also be compatible with the RAM ?

In part true, but a Z170 mobo can often take in excess of 3600 DRAM, H170s have often been tested up to 3000. With the non-K 6700 it becomes a CPU dependent (and that's individual CPU, some 6700s easily run 3200 others can't get past 2666 (haven't seen any yet that can't run 2666)...

Solution
If you check the spec sheet it will say the exact same thing as the 6700. It all depends on what motherboard you get for it. I would get DDR4 personally. As far as speed it really depends on what I can get for a good deal. Probably 2400-2600Mhz.
