Asus Gryphon Z97

I have never heard of a SSD doing this. I though it might be going bad but many people have told me SSD's work or they don't.

Any Ideas????

Here is the issue when the 480 gbs driver are setup in raid o sometimes when I boot it will not show one of the drives which results in windows not starting. Usally if you restart the computer 1-2 times the drive will show back up and the computer will start. This happened when this raid was setup as OS and when setup as storage.

Things I have tried. I have switched Sata cables. It always seems to be the same drive.

6 Sata ports.

Storage Setup

Raid 0
3 Pny SSD's 480GB's All the same drives

Raio 0 setup 2
3 Pny SSD's 240gb all the same drives

I have moved the drive in question to another sata plug and power port still does it. I don't think it is a power or a sata issue.

How do I check the firmware of these drive also do I have to break the raid to update firmware.

Found a similar issues with another person.

No idea what the solution was. I might just replace the drive and see if that fixes the issue. I'm going to assume its not the motherboard as I switched the sata slot the drive in question was using and this still happens. Its not often that it doesn't show up every 6-7 boots. And it does not drop when in windows.

one thing to check with asus..if one or more sata ports are using the same memory range or pci bus of another device in the mb. if it is that sata slot could be turning itself on and off. on some mb with m2 and other devices some of the sata slots are linked and if there used you lose those sata ports.

Please go into more detail.

The motherboard only has 6 sata slots and I am using all of them. The issue is only happening with one drive. Even when I move the raid arrays to different spots it still happens. It's following one of the 480gb drives the rest of the drive never have this issue. I just have never heard SSD's having these kinds of issue. To my knowledge they work or they don't. I wonder if just replacing the drive will fix it or if there is a deeper issue..

There is no M.2 on this motherboard and it is a Mini ATX and I'm assuming you just have one video card more than likely and i find that a weak PSU wouldn't be the issue as SSD's use a mer few watts each. All 6 of your SSD's use up as much power as maybe 2 HDD's if that.

I would try this. If you have another working system remove the one drive that is dropping and plug it in there as an extra drive. Then download and run the crystal disk info in my signature and see if it shows it as being bad at all.

Shows 100% health in Crystal in another computer. I wonder if one of the solders in the drive is bad because now I cant get it to not work but after sitting all night off it will fail on first boot and on second it will work. Please not that my 3x 240 pny in raid 0 with os never had this issue.

lmao don't we all get the failures? lmao

Well i would then try to get all your data off, RMA or replace the drive then, and then rebuild the RAID 0 and then restore your data. I hope you have a good backup solutions for that RAID 0 there.

If it stops then we know it was the drive. if it keeps happening then it is something else going on.

Me personally, never but I don't work with SSD's as much. they are finally cheap enough where in the past 6 months we have just started to have clients upgrade to SSD's, and mainly just work with Samsung Drives.

The only other thing i could think of is backup your data, break that RAID 0 and then remake the RAID 0 and see if it keeps dropping.
