Hello Community,

I have been reading alot of threads here, but i can't find the one i am looking for.

The Following Question.

I have an Gaming pc of about 3/4years old.
Running:
AMD Phenom x4 965 BE
ASRock 970 extreme 4
8GB GEIL RAM
Club3D HD6950 coolstream (x2, not sure)
And ofc the needed SSD.

Is it smart to just buy and GTX980Ti now and just bottle neck my pc to the max.
and buy a new DDR-4 system next year..
So that will cost me around 800 euro's or so.

Or as i was planning.
Buy a whole new DDR-4 System with an Intel i5-6600(k). Since i don't see the use of OC, but let's say i do.
with new DDR4 ram and mobo.
but with a less effective GPU like and GTX970 or even GTX960 or equal AMD.

That will cost me around 1000 euro's.

I got the budget, but i am in dout. GPU now and system 2017.
Or system now and GPU in 2017 ( since of the upgrade of GPU will be going faster then CPU/RAM upgrades since that is kinda 4 times slower in progress then the GPU Market.

:) Love to hear from you.

Tho if you Prefer a R9 390 from AMD also cool.
I am planning to do some Elder scrolls online, Heroes of the Storm, Diablo 3, and more graphics eating games since they have ALOT of FX and stuff.

If you wan't to play some High end games like on High settings like Fallout 4 Or do High quality Video Settings , You may need to Upgrade your PC .
Or if you just want to play games at med settings that too Med-High end games ,Just upgrading CPU is enough
Go for GTX970 if you can't afford

However , The second Expected build you told ( DDR4 Build ) Is great , Ofcourse better Than your current one .

Honestly, that cpu will be a bottleneck in many games. Even a 970 would be a bit much, like an 18 wheeler running on a 4 cylinder engine. it'll get there... eventually. I wouldnt put anything more expensive than a 280x in that current system. It would give you a nice boost but in many games, even the 280x would be bottle necked. I would say buy an fx cpu but its not much of an upgrade if I'm being honest. I'd either go all out on a decent i5 system. It doesnt even need to be a K overclockable model and pair it with a 970 or higher. Alternatively, it would be a smart idea to wait for the new wave of gpu's and cpu's coming out soon. They are going to be built using a smaller process and you will be able to get a more powerful card that runs cooler for around the same price.

Thanks for the 2 reactions already i love to hear more people about this.

So far from reading the comments i see that buying a high GPU is a waste of money since my system won't be able to use it fully and will only be awefull in anyway.

So upgrading to a whole new machine based on DDR-4 makes me future proof to just buy a mayor GPU upgrade in 2017 and maybe even een better CPU, since i expect the 1151mobo will stay for the long run for Intel.

I await more awnsers of people :)

I would get the new system, it will be a big upgrade compared to only GPU. As the games you mentioned is not that gpu hungry.

If you buy new system, your cpu, gpu, ram all will be faster than before. Overall great upgrade.
