I can switch to another CPU cooler when i already have installt the old one what do I need to do with the thermal paste on it. let the old thermal paste sit? or get off the old thermal paste and up new thermal paste on it? or do i need to put new thermal paste on the old thermal paste?

GPU: GTX 960
CPU: AMD FX 8320
RAM: 4 GB (2x)
MOTHERBOARD: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3
 
Solution
When you change your CPU coolers you're going to need to replace the thermal compound since most of it is going to go away stuck to the old cooler. You should get Isopropyl alcohol on a piece of cloth to clean it off, then apply new compound. Most coolers should come with their own tube if you don't have any.

Also remember not to overdo the amount of compound you apply since you don't want it going out of the CPU and into the socket or the motherboard.
