Go the 660ti. Nvidia gpu's come in generations, ie 600 series 700 series etc, the higher the number in that series will be the best performer. A 710 is the worst from the 700 series, a 790 the greatest, you want the higher last two digits of any series you choose which is why i chose the 660ti above those 700 series low enders. I would also replace the psu with a voltage of 550w at least

rgd1101, seriously man, why close the OLDER thread? That pisses me off... I already replied with a pretty long post and it was closed, throwing away that reply in the process

As for the post, here's the gist:

It's a crapshoot, most likely it will NOT work. Even if it does, you'll be CPU limited in modern games and non-accelerated video will stutter

And unless he needs it for a server, your nephew will say "thanks" then throw that thing in the trash because it's too slow and old

What the hell are you talking about? The link I gave you was for one with a MUCH,MUCH,MUCH faster GTX 950, a high end PSU, and 8gb ram!

I already mentioned that motherboard in the link above, as it's one of the cheapest skylake boards

Ok sorry, we have a same specs I like also, but I promote you offered to here.

That PC I linked is good enough to play any modern game at 1080p, though not at the highest graphics settings. For any games from before 2012, you can certainly max out settings and get >60fps.

my nephew just came in and said he still want to keep this set..he plays game currentlly istalled here..mainly dota 2,darksiders 2,company of heroes and dawn of war 2..these games runs on this system at average settings at 1360x760 resolution fairly well..what he wants is to rev up the gpu a bit higher..i have a RAVE 600 watts PSU on standby just in case you guys give me a suitable gpu for this system..thanks again..

For the pentium d? I highly suggest not bothering to put any more money into a system that old, though at least the PSU can be carried over. Just not that PSU, that's a PoS that should NEVER be used with modern equipment.

Again, a GPU is pointless to even consider until you check your firmware for compatibility!

ok thanks man..i think this is the end of this system..i will leave it as it is..i'm starting my new build now..starting with a leadway 684g pc casing it comes with a free 700 watts PSU that's why i chose it..i'm not sure if the mobo you suggested is compatible..i hope it does..thanks again to all of you guys..any suggestions are welcome..hehe..

Don't do that unless you want to burn out your hardware... Get a real PSU, it's cheaper in the long run

They are mobo/gpu burners, rubbish bin fillers, door stoppers.

Go Tier 1/2 or maybe 3

Tier One
The highest quality and most stable Power Supply Units available. Protected by industrial grade protection circuitry and can output wattage at a rated maximum temperature of 50°C or below. These units are also Haswell certified, meaning they can cope with the C6 and C7 sleep states of 0.05Amps without triggering the under-current protection switch. May even go over labelled wattage and still work until it safely shuts down.

As above, just slightly lower quality. Still safe to use and are all stable for any PC of today's standards, including Haswell C Stepping certification. Recommended for those on a fairly limited budget.

Some Haswell compatible, some not (maybe unconfirmed). Still safe to use and stable, just lower quality components. Not really ideal in serious overclocking or super-high load situations, such as a Bitcoin mining rig or a high end gaming system.

ohhh man!!!now you guys are really helping me out thanks so muuuuch i really appreciate these suggestions..i think ill go for thermaltake for now its the most common brand here in my area..

very bad idea, most of their stuff is not even ranked!

evga or corsair are safer, and seasonic is always good (even their worst is above average)
