I am going to start all over again and be a bit more clear as to the problems with my laptop. I'm really getting everyone confused!! My system is as follows!
Toshiba Laptop, Satellite C55d A5170
4 Gb ram
500 Gb HD
2 Yrs old, bought brand new w W8.1 on it
Comcast ISP, WiFi in home
WiFi works fine (Modem and Router attached to Desktop , just tested on tablet!!
Last wk I updated from 8.1 to W10.
In 8.1 WiFi automatically found connection
and no problems - When going to W10 the WiFi toggle
was alway "off" and when I moved it to "on" it would
move back to "off". After a week of trying to get some
help on the internet (I'm sending this on my desktop
which works fine on internet) I gave up and decided to
go with Linux
I installed Linux Mint Cinnamon yesterday and when I installed I set it up to
remove everything on my hard drive which I think it did. Everything works fine
except the same situation with WiFi. In the lower right corner there is
a broken cable symbol, when I click on it a small black screen comes up
and one of the options is WiFi and it has a toggle next to it that is off.
When I move it to the right it goes right back to off!!!
I reinstalled Windows 10 and still same problems
When I was having trouble with this in W10 everyone told me to look under device manager, network adapters, and either uninstall the drivers and reinstall or go and download new drivers. Under network adapters there were 2 line items both were realtek
Device manager, Network adapters
Realtek PCIe FE Family Controler Driver 9.1.402.2015
Realtek RTL8188EE Wireless Lan 802.11n PCI-E NIC Driver 2023.4.720.2015
Ran Windows Diagnostics and totally useless. Hooked up my ether cable and no connection.
I keep downloading drivers from Toshiba but Windows keeps telling me the drivers I had was the most current ones!
Windows says both devices are working properly!!
Can someone give me a link to the right drivers I should be using, I think I may be downloading the wrong ones.
I've asked for help at Toshiba and waste of time!! Tks, David
