How good is the ASUS ROG Maximus Ranger VII? Should I upgrade to something better?

Hi Members,

I was curious if I need to upgrade the ASUS ROG Maximus Ranger VII to a better one?

At the time it was a bundle with the 4790k and thought that sounds like a good deal.
But wasn't sure if another motherboard I could get be more better for gaming?

Just a quick question is the 4790k still considered as a good CPU for gaming or have the other Intel CPU's far better?

Thanks guy for your help on this matter.

Regards,

Its a good unit made by FSP. It performs well but is a bit overpriced for what it is in my opinion, many reviewers note this as well. But it seems to be a solid unit I would have no issue using it. I linked a review below.

Ive heard great things abput that board. I mean you cant really get a mobo with more features/benefits, it is pretty much top of the line for 4th gen Intel CPUs. Asus makes great boards. . And that CPU is still great! You really dont see any performance increase from that CPU and newer Intel CPUs like the 6700K.

I would reccomend any of these below.

MSI: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-z97gaming5

ASUS: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z97a

ASROCK: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-fatal1tyz97killer

Gigabyte: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz97xgaming3

ASUS sabertooth High end I would rather have one of these than a ROG board: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-sabertoothz97mark1usb31

I would not upgrade to any of the boards unless for some reason your board is faulty or you need a new feature. While I may agree that ASUS ROG Maximus Ranger VII is a little on the high side on price for the features but if you already have the board I would not spend the $ to upgrade/sidegrade it.

An upgrade to skylake is not a good investment for price/performance ratio for gaming. THe CPU/mobo combo you have is fine.

Yeah I definitely agree, for some reason when I wrote I think i was assuming you did not buy a mobo yet. But if you already have the ranger and it works well there is no reason to switch to something else especially if it would cost you any money.
