So I've never had a problem running any games on my system with low FPS. I actually run almost anything at a solid 60fps with vsync with ultra settings 1080p. However, I just recently got a new game "the Culling", which is an indie game in early access. I have well over the recommended specs for this game, however when playing it I experience low fps all around (40 - 50), why does this happen?

I'm assuming it might be because the game isn't fully made yet, so it's not fully optimized. However, I still think i should be getting better fps with this machine.

My specs:
Intel i7-4790k OCED to 4.6ghz
MSI GTX 970 4GB Gaming edition (factory settings)
16GB 2133 DDR3 RAM
750w 90+ Rated PSU
pretty much all u should need to know i think. any ideas guys?

Well, its in an alpha stage right now, so its most likely not very optimized like you said. But if you feel that strongly you can check the game files through steam.
Load Steam.
From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game cache... button.
Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.
