Mixing Two (same) RAM kits: Will it work?

I am doing a new build and the hyperX RAM kits look really nice. They also come in white, and in black. I want to mix one 16gb white kit with a 16gb black kit to contribute to my white and black theme. However, the voltages are both 1.5 and I'm afraid mixing that would be problematic, as the max voltage on my 4790k is just over 1.5V. Is this going to work? Will mixing them add the voltages and result in a blue screen?

Solution
Only you can decide really - if it was me, Id take the guarantee of not having instability headaches over aesthetics any day. You could always plasti-dip half the sticks later anyway.

When RAM manufactures make the modules, they are tested. The ones that work together are put together as 'kits', which is why they usually cost more than single modules.

Mixing kits / modules is never really advisable, as there is no solid guarantee that they will play nice together, even if they are identical on paper.

That doesnt mean to say that definitely will not work, but there's always the chance that they could cause issues.

Well thanks to both of you. One more question, though: is it going to be worth it to just go for a 32gb kit for 20$ more or are the possible dangers of mixing these identical 16gb kits worth the nice looks and cheaper price tag?

How much do you like mucking around with RAM voltages/timings in the BIOS? If you get two kits that don't play well together, that's what it devolves into, manually adjusting settings until you get everything to behave. The extra $20 overhead saves you the chances you have to spend hours testing settings to get all 32GB to play together.

These are two identical kits.

Just different colors.

Doesn't make a difference. If they aren't binned to work all together, there is a nonzero chance you'll have to manually adjust voltages/timings to get them all to work together. There are plenty of threads of people getting two 8GB or two 16GB kits and then having to be walked through manually making them work. I can't tell you what the exact chances of the two kits not behaving together are, but I can tell you it's not zero, which is what it would be if you bought the 32GB kit.
