Is it still worth buying windows 7?

I heard that microsoft will end support for windows 7 during the end of this year. I am building my first pc and I and deciding on the os. So is it still worth it to buy windows 7 now.

P.S. Is it me, that i am see a less vendors for windows 7?

It is stopping now. Since support will end, it won't be sold anymore. The good thing about Windows 7 is the ability to turn off features to dedicate resources for gaming. But otherwise it is not a big deal. Get Windows 10

if windows 7 is cheaper then pick it up then use the microsoft media creation tool to download to a usb stick clean version of windows 10 then use the windows 7 oem number to register it. with windows if you buy the oem version it locked to that mb the retail versions are not.

a lot of new builds and games dont come on dvd anymore with stream. with a usb 3.0/3.1 usb stick and newer mb the install of windows 10 is faster then using a dvd. I use the free windows media tool to make the newest iso from microsoft. most dvd the iso image is a few months old. with a usb stick you can put the dvd in a safe place and not need to use it. another trick with usb stick is after you make the bootable windows image if you use a 8g stick and there extra room you can put the newest drivers for the mb and ethernet and sound and the gpu drivers on the usb stick. when windows boots up for the first time you can install all of the drivers from the usb stick.

Windows 7 end of extended support is January 14, 2020. So it's basically a personal choice right at this moment as almost everything currently available is Windows 7 capable, but there are still issues with some current software not being windows 10 capable. It's also personal preference. I am so used to using my 7 Pro, that navigating my daughters win 10 is almost a pain in the ash. She's a big fan of the cubes, I hate them.

On the flip side, Windows 10 is directX 12 native, Windows 7 isn't. That may or may not make a difference in new release games, but since all my games are older, doesn't affect me.

Go with whatever you'll be more comfortable with.

If you use anything like a skylake or X99, using win7 is just wrong. The updating process is outdated, the out of box experience is outdated, and supported hardware is outdated. You need drivers for EVERYTHING, and windows updater can't install anything by itself. Not just that, it needs a shutdown to install them, compared to the automatic restart w10 does.

For me personally w10 is the future and w7 was GREAT but it's done it's duty, time to move on. Yes it's a bit different, but boy all the new goodies like M.2 and usb3 out of the box support yes please. Also go pro or, pun intended, go home. Being able to defer updates is a godsend (last weeks secure boot patch /shudder).

I've been looking at the left side of the screen for all the menus since windows95 arrived. Now in win 10 it's left for one menu, then right for another choicechoice, don't forget the corners for other choices, then right back to the left for even more options. Aggravating.
