Ad Hoc Network times out and needs to be re-hosted to start working again?

My ISP wanted to charge extra to unlock the wireless capabilities on our Modem/Router combo that it's already built to do, which is ridiculous, and ATM I couldn't be bothered to buy a router.

The temporary fix I found online was to use my wireless adapter to broadcast another Ad Hoc network with its own SSID and encryption, while wired from the modem.

Which works. But eventually times out for some reason. I've made sure to leave my PC on at all times so that the rest of the household can share my connection, but by the time I get home from work, the network often had timed out or something and will only work if I stop and re-start the network via CMD.

Why does it always fail after like one day? It eventually times out or something. I'm no network technician. I may just throw in the towel for a cheap 30 dollar Linksys or something, but it's just annoying.

I'm using Windows 10

Solution
Probably just an ordinary bug - make sure the drivers are up to date, but if that doesn't work you may just be out of luck.

One thing to try is to keep the link active all the time - if you have a computer (besides the ad-hoc host machine) on all the time, try running a continuous ping (ping -t <ip address>). That MIGHT help.
